Job summary

CoolIT Systems, based in Calgary, Alberta, seeks a Thermal Mechanical Engineering Team Lead to guide a design engineering team focused on Direct Liquid Cooling products. You will drive technical excellence, manage workload, mentor engineers and partner with external stakeholders to accelerate innovation.

Lead with strong CAD skills, GD&T, FEA, and NPI experience, shaping product development from concept to mass production while building a culture that attracts, develops, and retains top talent

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of thermal design and fluid dynamics concepts.
  • Experience with NPI and hardware development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the technical design process for Direct Liquid Cooling products to stay competitive.
  • Manage workload, prioritize tasks, and develop team capabilities.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, customers, consultants, and suppliers for technical decision-making.
  • Define cross-functional roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths for product development.
  • Act as the point of contact for design standards and engineering processes.

What You’ll Do

As the Thermal Mechanical Engineering Team Lead, you will lead a team of skilled design engineers responsible for Direct Liquid Cooling products, ensuring technical excellence and timely project execution. You will manage team workload, support technical development, and collaborate with industry partners to drive continuous improvement and adopt best-in-class technologies. As a functional team leader, your success will be measured by your team’s ability to perform effectively and achieve its goals. Responsibilities
  • Oversee the technical design process used for Direct Liquid Cooling products, ensuring the product development workflow remains competitive and enables the team to achieve project targets.
  • Manage the team's workload, prioritize tasks, and delegate effectively, while also focusing on building the team's technical knowledge, supporting career growth, and managing performance.
  • Collaborate with external parties, including industry partners, customers, consultants, and critical component suppliers, to support technical decision‑making, continuous improvement, and adoption of best‑in‑class technology without diluting Engineering’s ownership of design standards, processes, and workflows.
  • Work with other departments to define clear cross‑functional roles, responsibilities, decision boundaries, and escalation paths for product development activities that involve Engineering.
  • Act as the Engineering team’s point of contact and decision maker for design standards, engineering processes, and team workflows, ensuring these practices are clearly communicated, consistently applied, and aligned with cross‑departmental needs.
Who You Are
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar Engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of thermal design and fluid dynamics concepts.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical design and engineering, including mechanism analysis, GD&T, FEA, DFM, DFMEA, PLM, thermal simulation, testing and validation.
  • Strong understanding of the New Product Introduction process, with proven experience managing hardware development through the full product lifecycle from concept, prototyping, verification, validation, and production transfer through to mass production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of people management and/or technical leadership experience (managing or supervising engineering teams).
  • Experience with high‑volume production for industrial products.
  • Possess P.Eng designation or similar professional credentials.

  • Capacity to manage team workload, prioritize, and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to coordinate with external parties while representing Engineering’s decisions on design standards, development processes, and workflow expectations.
  • Proven ability to manage and execute departmental plans and budgets spending.
  • Capability to lead cross‑departmental product development initiatives and drive alignment from early concept definition through design release, production readiness, and mass production support.
