Job summary

Canadian Natural is seeking an intermediate to senior Thermal Geologist to join the Thermal Exploration team in Calgary, Alberta. You will deliver integrated geological interpretations to support SAGD, CSS, and steam flood opportunities across McMurray and Clearwater assets.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize reservoir development, blending core data, logs, and 3D models to guide drilling and production decisions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of Canadian petroleum geology experience.
• Registration (or eligibility for registration) with APEGA is required.
• Proven problem-solving, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Solid understanding of Mannville stratigraphy and depositional environments relevant to thermal bitumen development.
• Experience or interest in horizontal well planning and drilling support.
• Proficiency with subsurface interpretation software such as Petrel, Geographix, and AccuMap, along with strong Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and progress SAGD, CSS, and steam flood development opportunities within producing properties and future thermal developments.
• Generate high-quality geological interpretations using core, image logs, wireline logs, and other subsurface data.
• Collaborate with Geologists, Petrophysicists, Geophysicists, Geomodellers, and Engineers to build and maintain 3D geological models for thermal development planning.
• Support the planning and execution of horizontal well drilling programs, including thermal producer and injector well pairs, stratigraphic wells, and observation wells.
• Integrate interpretations with production and surveillance data to optimize existing thermal wells and identify optimization opportunities.
