Job description

Aplin has partnered with a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced thermal-management technology to recruit a Thermal Technologist for its Technology and Product Development team in Dorval.

This permanent, full-time position is well suited to an early-career mechanical engineering professional with a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer. You will contribute to the analysis, modelling and testing of heat exchangers and thermal systems used in existing and next-generation products.

The Opportunity

Working alongside product development and engineering professionals, you will analyze thermal-system performance, develop component models, support prototype testing and help resolve complex heat-transfer and fluid-flow challenges.

This is an opportunity to apply your technical knowledge in a practical research and product-development environment while gaining exposure to advanced heat exchanger and HVAC technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze heat exchanger technologies, including shell-and-tube, flooded, falling-film, direct-expansion, brazed-plate, fin-and-tube and microchannel configurations.

  • Perform thermal and fluid-flow analyses to optimize system performance and heat exchanger efficiency.

  • Develop analytical and numerical models for major components used in existing and new products.

  • Use engineering simulation tools to evaluate fluid flow, heat transfer, thermal performance and component behaviour.

  • Support product development and engineering teams in resolving system-level and heat exchanger performance issues.

  • Plan, conduct and analyze prototype and system-performance testing.

  • Interpret test data and recommend improvements to system and component designs.

  • Assist with component selection and collaborate with suppliers to develop and evaluate new concepts.

  • Prepare clear technical documentation, reports and recommendations.

  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting project timelines and quality expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; a master’s degree is considered an asset.

  • One to three years of thermal engineering or related product-development experience.

  • Strong practical understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat-transfer principles.

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Python, MATLAB or C++.

  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics or finite element analysis tools, preferably ANSYS.

  • Experience with heat exchangers, chillers, refrigeration or HVAC systems is considered an asset.

  • Experience with prototype testing and engineering data analysis is an asset.

  • Familiarity with standard chiller-performance testing procedures is an asset.

  • Exposure to CAD software is an asset.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Careful attention to technical detail and data accuracy.

  • Organized and capable of managing multiple priorities.

  • Able to work effectively with limited supervision.

  • Collaborative approach to working with engineering, product-development and supplier teams.

  • Clear technical writing and communication skills.

If you are an early-career engineering professional interested in thermal-system analysis, product development and advanced heat-transfer technology, we welcome your application.
