Job summary

CASA Mental Health is hiring a Therapy Support Navigator to work with the school-based therapy team in Sherwood Park, Alberta. You will support screening, case management and treatment delivery under supervision, helping families access resources and build skills in home and school settings.

The role requires collaboration across staff, Indigenous services and school personnel; a valid driver’s license and vehicle are preferred for community connections and transportation needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education or related discipline.
• Active registration under Health Professions Act, if eligible.
• Minimum of two years practical experience in a children’s mental health setting.
• Experience navigating services and locating resources in the community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct direct consultations with families to assess needs and identify support.
• Provide parent coaching and guidance to address adolescent needs.
• Assist families with internal and external program referrals and applications.
• Identify and connect to natural and community supports.

About the CASA House Program

You will be part of a team that provides individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings. CASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addiction challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months.

Wage range: $33.92 to $41.70

About the Role

Reporting to the Program Manager and Program Supervisor, the Therapy Support Navigator works closely with the Mental Health Therapist in the classrooms care team to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment/transition plans. The Therapy Support Navigator has an integral role within the therapy team to provide treatment extension and promote the uptake and application of skills within family and school settings. The Therapy Support Navigator also facilitates child, adolescent and parent treatment groups under the supervision of the Mental Health Therapist.

The Therapy Support Navigator will:

• Conduct direct consultations with families to assess individual needs and identify appropriate support.
• Provide parent coaching and guidance to help them address their adolescent’s needs.
• Assist families with internal and external program referrals and applications.
• Identify and facilitate connections to natural and community-based supports.
• Facilitate psychoeducational groups for adolescents and parents.
• Coordinate connections with CASA Indigenous Services, the Youth and Family Advisory Council and other relevant supports.
• Maintain a consultant-liaison role with school personnel, including principals and teachers.
• Provide emotional support to school personnel and caregivers while identifying concerns, challenges and potential solutions.
• Provide updates to the team regarding patients’ progress in school following observation sessions as part of monthly reporting.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings with school personnel and parents as required.
• Support and empower parents to develop and maintain advocacy skills on behalf of their children.
• Provide caregivers with feedback and recommendations based on observations conducted in the school setting.
• Coordinate and facilitate monthly case conference meetings with the team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent case management, critical thinking, collaboration, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and adapt to changing situations.
• Ability to ask effective questions to identify key issues and drivers.
• Understanding of interprofessional approaches to mental health and mental illness.
• Ability to build consensus and work respectfully and collaboratively with all staff.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education or a related discipline such as psychology, social sciences, etc.
• Active registration under the Health Professions Act, if eligible.
• A minimum of two years of practical experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting.
• Experience navigating services and locating resources in a community.

Conditions of Employment

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.

• Valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
