Your Opportunity

The Post-Acute Rehabilitation Program (PARP) is the premier general rehabilitation program in Southern Alberta. It consists of 24 rehabilitation beds that are focused on intensive-inpatient rehabilitation. This unit primarily admits patients who have rehabilitation potential following a cerebral vascular accident, hip fractures, amputations and various neurological disorders. Therapy Assistants (TA) are part of the greater rehabilitation team that includes RNs, LPNs, HCAs, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Recreation Therapists, Therapy Assistants, Registered Dietitians, Pharmacists, Unit Clerks, Family Physicians and Physiatrists. In addition, the PARP department hosts 12 Restorative Care beds.

Description

The Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of therapeutic rehabilitation programs. The Therapy Assistant participates in assessment‑related activities as well as the planning and development of client programs which includes leading individual or group treatment and educational interventions. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications
  • A directly related diploma from a recognised post‑secondary institution is required.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting preferred.
  • Must have experience working with elderly or disabled individuals.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and know restrictions and limitations of their contact with patient treatment and education.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with disabled and uncommunicative adults.
  • Must demonstrate patience and flexibility.
  • Must be able to concentrate over extended periods of time.
  • Ability to diplomatically address patient/family concerns.
  • Evidence of continuous learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Recreation experience in a Continuing Care setting.
  • Is required to spend considerable time standing, walking and in close supportive contact with patients.
  • Is required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements, change position (assume awkward positions), transfer and/or lift adults and transport equipment.
  • Experience in hospital and community settings an asset.
