Overview

The Therapy Assistant (TA) is primarily responsible for implementing Applied Behavior Analysis and Occupational Therapy interventions for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder or other learning and development delays and/or maladaptive behaviour. The TA executes intervention plans developed and supervised by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA) or Occupational Therapist for clients in care of Monarch House. The TA works within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment. The TA is primarily responsible for implementing interdisciplinary treatment to clients across Monarch House.

Job Type: Part-time. Hourly

Job setting: Clinic and community-based in Oakville

Salary: $21-24/hr

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:45 AM – 7:00 PM EST (depends on client needs; may not be scheduled for all)

What you will do
  • Responsible for implementing treatment plans based on best practices.
  • Use systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support clients in changing their behaviour. Contribute to the development of ABA / OT / SLPA programs established by the BCBA / OT to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in 1:1 and/or small group settings.
  • Assist in conducting baseline measurements and other indirect measures as instructed by the BCaBA/BCBA / OT/SLPA.
  • Understand the functions of behavior and respond appropriately and safely when situations arise.
  • Adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions. Create a positive and engaging environment for the client.
  • Track client progress through data collection and graphing while keeping clients engaged.
  • Complete incident reports in Microsoft Teams as per regional requirements within 24 hours of an incident.
  • Attend regular client-centered team meetings to review client progress, problem-solve, and inform of potential changes.
  • Provide communication updates regarding unusual or different behavior in an organized, professional, positive, and respectful manner to caregivers and BCBA / OT/SLPA.
What you will need to be successful
  • Completed degree in ABA/OT/SLPA or a related field or pursuing education in these fields.
  • At least 1 year experience implementing ABA, SLPA, or OTA treatments with children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice.
  • Experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities will be considered an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities.
  • Available for hourly shifts that can build to full time.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
