Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeast British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Rehabilitation and Spiritual Care staff. These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under the supervision and direction of the Clinical Leaders and Allied Health Management, the Therapy Aide assists in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Rehabilitation Department. Duties include but are not limited to ordering and obtaining supplies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and maintaining an environment that is clean and safe. In addition, the aide will support direct patient care under the direction of program therapists. The successful incumbent will prepare for and lead Recreation Therapy activities, including individualized therapy programs and small group activities. They will prepare and provide feeding assistance for swallowing assessments, including assessments conducted using X-ray technology and other specialized techniques. As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.
