Job summary

WSP is seeking a senior engineer to lead NDT, materials engineering, and failure investigations for critical railway assets in Canada. You will shape inspection strategies, guide risk-informed decisions, and mentor teams to deliver defensible conclusions for clients.

Ideal candidates hold a Canadian P.Eng and a Mechanical/Materials/Metallurgical degree, with 8+ years in NDT or asset integrity and strong standards knowledge. This role may involve field work across sites in Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and professional engineer status in Canada are required or eligible.
• 8+ years in materials engineering, NDT, failure analysis, QA, or asset integrity.
• Experience leading complex inspections and risk-informed engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex NDT, materials engineering, and failure investigations for critical railway components and systems.
• Define risk-based inspection and testing strategies for condition-based maintenance programs.
• Provide senior technical judgement on repair, replacement, monitoring, life extension, and fitness-for-service decisions.
• Direct multidisciplinary assessments of fatigue, fracture, corrosion, wear, and weld quality.
• Guide incident investigations and root cause analyses with defensible conclusions and corrective actions.
• Advise clients on supplier qualification, manufacturing quality, and standards compliance.
• Review and approve high-impact technical deliverables and communicate findings to clients.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to proposals and client relationships.

Shape critical asset integrity decisions for railway rolling stock and infrastructure through senior-level expertise in nondestructive testing, materials engineering, and failure analysis. You will lead complex investigations, guide inspection strategies, and help clients turn technical evidence into risk-informed actions that protect people, performance, and long-term asset value.

Your Impact

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical , Materials, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is an asset.
• Professional Engineer designation in Canada, or eligibility for registration in the applicable jurisdiction.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in materials engineering, NDT, failure analysis, quality assurance, or asset integrity.
• Demonstrated leadership of complex inspections, failure investigations, root cause analyses, and risk-informed engineering decisions.
• Advanced knowledge of metallic, polymeric, composite, welded, and fabricated component degradation and characterization.
• Strong command of relevant AAR, ASTM, AREMA, CSA, ISO, or comparable standards and quality requirements.
• Ability to lead field activities safely in active railway, industrial, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
• NDT certification in methods such as UT or MPI, and experience with supplier qualification or welding quality programs, are assets.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $114,600 - $151,800

MB & ON: $104,500 - $143,900

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $103,500 - $137,400
