Job summary

Ontario Shores Centre for MHS in Whitby, ON is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Registered Nurse 2 for the Eating Disorders Unit (EDU). The RN will provide specialized care to adolescents with complex mental health needs, lead as charge nurse when assigned, and collaborate with an inter-professional team.

Candidates must have active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and current CPR-HCP/BCLS. BScN is preferred; prior eating disorders experience is an asset.

Qualifications

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ontario Shores is seeking a Registered Nurse. As an RN, you will provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses using a recovery focused model of care built upon compassion, inspiration and hope. RNs will engage in a leadership role and to be an active and equal member of the inter-professional team. RNs are expected to perform Charge nurse responsibilities and may be given the opportunity to apply to the Patient Care Facilitator role.

Please Note: Although the posted vacancy is to work within Adolescent Eating Disorder Unit, all Registered Nurses must have the ability to work in any area of Ontario Shores as patients’ needs dictate.

Requirements

• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
• BScN preferred.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
• Current CPR – HCP (Health Care Provider)
• Demonstrated knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the CNO.
• Basic knowledge of psychopharmacological interventions and psychiatric disorders within an adolescent population is preferred.
• Knowledge of psychopharmacological interventions and psychiatric disorders within an adolescent population.
• Experience with adolescent assessment and treatment modalities.
• Experience in Eating Disorders is an asset.
• Experience in crisis and suicide intervention.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
• Evidence of strong professional boundaries.
• Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within an inter-professional team environment.
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.

• Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
• Must be able work shifts.
• CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is considered an asset. It is highly encouraged that staff complete the CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing within five years of hire date.
• The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language is an asset.
