Job summary

Keewatin-Patricia District School Board seeks an experienced Human Resources Officer to provide professional HR services across the organization from the Dryden Board Office. You will administer collective agreements, handle recruitment, benefits, records, and HR technology while supporting managers and staff.

The role requires a college diploma in HR or related field, 3+ years HR experience (public sector/education a plus), strong communication and confidentiality, and proficiency with MS

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Relations, Public Administration, Commerce, or related field.
  • University degree or focus in HR is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HR or related field.
  • Experience in unionized, public sector, education or municipal environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of employment, labour, and human rights legislation.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, board policies, and collective agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal, consultation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS; ability to handle confidential information.
  • Valid Class G driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) at employee expense.

Position: Human Resources Officer

Hours of Work:Full Time (1.0 FTE) at 35 hours per week

Location: Dryden Board Office

Rate of Pay: $43.97 / hour

Union Affiliation: Non Union, Casual

Start Date:Effective Immediately until September 1, 2027 or return of the incumbent

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Officer provides professional human resources services and supports the delivery of strategic and operational HR initiatives across the organization. The position is responsible for interpreting and administering all collective agreements, relevant legislation and regulations, including collective bargaining preparation activities and industrial relations. The Human Resources Officer is also responsible for conducting recruitment and absence management, developing HR procedures and policies, administering benefits, managing of personal records and HR technologies and providing manager and employee support.

QUALIFICATIONS

College diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Relations, Public Administration, Commerce, or a related field, from a recognized institution required. A University degree and / or a focus on human resources or employee / labour relations from a recognized institution is an asset. Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience in human resources, or employee / labour relations, recruitment, disability management, payroll or a related field. Experience in a unionized, public sector, education, or municipal environment is considered an asset. Demonstrated knowledge of employment, labour, and human rights legislation. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, Board policies, administrative procedures, and collective agreements. Strong interpersonal, consultation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical and time-management skills. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and human resources information systems. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Valid Class G driver's licence and access to reliable transportation is required. This position will require a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) at the employee’s expense.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with frequent use of computer systems and HR technologies. The position requires a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, discretion, and the handling of sensitive and confidential information. Periods of increased concentration are required when reviewing employee files, preparing reports, conducting investigations, managing employee relations matters, and supporting labour relations activities. The position may require travel to schools and worksites throughout the Board's geographic area. Occasional travel outside the Board’s geographic area, including overnight travel, may be required to attend career fairs, recruitment activities, conferences, training, and professional development events.
