The Integrated Community Access Program is seeking a Registered Nurse 3 (Community Mental Health Nurse), reporting to the Clinical Manager of Admissions and Bed Utilization.
Responsibilities
- Provide a coordinated, extended‑hours service integrating crisis intervention, central intake services, and outbound call centre.
- Triage all referrals received to Ontario Shores; communicate with referral sources to ensure complete and appropriate information is received.
- Present complete referrals to the physician responsible for acceptance to the centre.
- Conduct crisis assessments and facilitate admission to Ontario Shores for psychiatric intervention and/or referrals for community support/intervention.
- Provide crisis intervention both in person and via telephone.
- Offer information and system navigation to individuals, families, and other care providers.
Qualifications
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN preferred.
- Current CPR‑HCP certification.
- Five years of psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service.
- Three years of experience in a crisis nursing role.
- Sound knowledge of community mental health and addiction resources.
- Ability to make effective referrals, demonstrating in‑depth knowledge of community resources within the Central East LHIN and strong collaborative skills with community partners and health care providers.
- Thorough knowledge and ability to administer mental‑status examinations, psychosocial and crisis assessments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the College Standards of Practice and a commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health policies and legislation, including the Mental Health Act and PHIPA.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of an interprofessional team.
- Proficient knowledge of psychotropic medication.
- Proven ability to exercise mature, effective judgment and behaviour in emergency situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and documentation practices.
- Ability to work with clients of diverse ethno‑racial and cultural backgrounds; proficiency in a second language considered an asset.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
- Days, evenings, and weekend work required.
Contract & Compensation
6‑month contract; hiring for 1 vacancy. This position is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.
