Job summary

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking a Temporary Educational Assistant to support students with special needs in a full-time 35-hour work week for a 10-month term. The role includes assisting with lessons, managing transitions, and aiding in behavior support within the classroom.

Start date is immediate with an expected duration through December 18, 2026. Preference is given to candidates from the casual Educational Assistant pool.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a post secondary educational assistant program (normally one year) or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year experience working with children.
• Willingness to perform required physical tasks including toileting and lifting.
• Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.
• Ability to function independently within a team.
• Basic knowledge of computer software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of a prescribed program with special needs students in both individual and group settings.
• Aid the children in the transition from home to school.
• Act as a liaison between students and the teacher.
• Attend meetings as required and take notes.
• Create and design crafts, charts and teaching materials under the teacher's direction.
• Assist in implementing the Individualized Education Plan for students with special needs.
• Observe and report on students' behaviour, academic, motor and social development; prepare reports and maintain logs.
• Support teachers with behavior management, including crisis intervention and de-escalation.
• Assist with feeding, toileting and changing as required.
• Maintain classroom routines and assist with field trips and general duties.
• Provide classroom assistance such as setting up displays, preparing materials, and organizing supplies.
