Terrace Lodge is a 100-bed long-term care home in the Township of Malahide. Our home is situated in beautiful Elgin County and features private and basic accommodation with 24-hour nursing care. Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Type: Temporary, Part-time

Compensation: $39.07 - $56/hr based on experience and years of service

About the Role:

As a Registered Nurse, you will be part of a collaborative care team that will provide professional nursing care to residents. As a leader, you will support, supervise and provide guidance to the Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses within the Home as they provide care to the residents.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provides nursing care in accordance with administration policies, physician orders, established standards and recognized nursing principles.
  • Supervises and directs the nursing staff including: daily routines, scheduling for call-ins, performance appraisal input and participates in resident care related meetings as required.
  • Assesses the resident’s condition. Must observe, recognize, interpret, report and record symptoms and signs where appropriate, must institute remedial health measures.
  • Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and care according to procedure manual on resident’s charts.
  • Performs duties and receives direction and technical assistance from the Home physician.
  • Administers and records medications and treatments as prescribed and approved by the Home physician.
  • Assists in training and supervision of nursing service personnel.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with all staff, physicians and/or other professionals as encountered and residents, their families and the public.
  • Must be aware of current trends and developments in nursing practice, and to assess their adaptability and recommend changes to the Manager of Resident Care as necessary.
  • Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotics keys.
  • With the team develops and maintains up-to-date Resident Care Plans.
  • Provides and directs the care and attention to the personal needs of residents of the Home including assistance in toilet routines, bathing, dressing, eating, walking, sitting, getting in and out of bed, as required.
  • Identifies and understands the needs of residents in maintaining a physical and psychosocial environment which meets the needs of the residents.
  • Assumes the responsibility for the building when Management is off-site.
  • Assists with In-service Education of Nursing personnel, and where appropriate assists with nursing research.
  • Complies with fire and safety regulations to ensure the security and protection of residents of the Homes. The registered nurse will direct the staff in the exercise of their duties in any emergency.
  • Ensures that incident/accident reports are completed.
  • Ensures that the staff, contractors and sub-contractors work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the County of Elgin and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Advises the worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health and safety of the worker of which he/she is aware.
  • Takes every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of the worker – including notifying Management of any concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR Level HCP or BLS Certification
  • Related work experience, specifically in geriatrics, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing, and/or completion of a course in geriatric nursing is an asset
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, coordinating and supervising others
