Job summary

CIMA+ is hiring a Telecom Engineer to design and deliver mission-critical telecommunications systems for diverse clients across the energy, utilities, and transportation sectors. You will contribute to system architecture, create engineering designs, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliable, scalable solutions across wired and wireless platforms.

The role is hybrid and based in Canada with opportunities to work from Vancouver or other Western Canadian offices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for P.Eng. with provincial regulator.
  • 4+ years of relevant wired/wireless telecoms experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop telecom system designs and eng deliverables under senior staff guidance.
  • Prepare network architectures, schematics, interconnection diagrams and design drawings.
  • Produce technical specs, design reports, BOMs, test procedures and procurement docs.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.

As a Telecom Engineer, you will be engaged in the design and delivery of mission‑critical telecommunications systems across a variety of projects for CIMA+’s key clients. Our telecommunications team works with industrial and public‑sector clients across power utilities, energy, transportation, telecommunications carriers, and other critical infrastructure sectors.

You will contribute to system architecture, design, and implementation; develop engineering designs and technical deliverables; coordinate with other engineering disciplines; and work collaboratively with project teams and clients to develop practical, reliable, and resilient telecommunications solutions across a broad range of wired and wireless applications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop telecommunications system designs and engineering deliverables under the direction of senior technical staff.
  • Prepare network architectures, schematics, block diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and design drawings.
  • Prepare technical specifications, design reports, calculations, bills of materials, inspection and testing procedures, and procurement documentation.
  • Support project scope development, proposals, estimates, schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces with clients, vendors, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support equipment evaluation, procurement, staging, FAT/SAT, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Travel to project sites as required to support field investigations, installation, commissioning, and issue resolution.
  • Respond to site information requests and complete project documentation, including record drawings, calculations and project closeout information.
  • Participate in design reviews and progressively develop technical leadership capability within the telecommunications team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Registered as, or eligible for registration as, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the applicable provincial engineering regulator.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of wired and wireless telecommunications systems, preferably within an EPC/EPCM, consulting or owner/client environment.
  • Experience with networks supporting operationally critical or mission‑critical applications, including design considerations across OSI Layers 1 to 4.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Technical Experience

Experience with several of the following technologies is preferred, with an interest in developing broader capability across mission‑critical operational telecommunications.

  • Transport & Packet Networks:
  • DWDM/OTN; SONET/SDH and legacy migration; MPLS/MPLS-TP/IP/MPLS; Carrier Ethernet; routing and switching; VLAN; QoS and traffic engineering
  • Wireless Systems:
  • Licensed microwave; LMR; LTE/private wireless; Wi‑Fi; satellite communications
  • Utility / OT Telecom:
  • Teleprotection; OPGW and fibre‑optic systems; Power Line Carrier (PLC); High Voltage Entrance (HVE); SCADA/RTU communications; IEC 61850 communications
  • Supporting Systems:
  • Telecom DC power; network synchronization/timing; firewalls and secure network interfaces; monitoring and network management systems

Assets

  • Experience with electric utility telecommunications, including teleprotection, OPGW/fibre systems, PLC/HVE and substation communications.
  • Experience with control and automation systems such as SCADA, RTUs, PLCs and IEC 61850.
  • Knowledge of IT/OT convergence, OT cybersecurity principles and critical infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of IP/MPLS, QoS mechanisms and traffic engineering principles.
  • Nokia NRS II or Nokia Certified Service Routing Architect (SRA), Cisco, Juniper or similar advanced networking certifications.
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP or ISA/IEC 62443.
