Job summary

Huawei Canada is looking for a Technology Ecosystem & Academic Relations Lead for a 12-month contract. The role focuses on building external networks across universities and industries, identifying trends, and organizing technical workshops and seminars.

Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Technology Ecosystem & Academic Relations Lead.

About the team

The Technology Planning and Cooperation Department promotes strategic innovation across all of Huawei Canada. Working with fellow experts, the focus is researching new and upcoming areas of technology as well as strategic planning to help achieve long term vision of Huawei. This department offers a unique opportunity to leverage both technical and business skills.

About the job

Build and maintain the institute’s external technology network across universities, research labs, enterprise research groups, open-source communities, startups, and industry organizations.

Identify key professors, researchers, architects, engineers, founders, open-source maintainers, and product leaders. Build expert profiles, institution maps, technology landscape maps, and collaboration pipelines.

Help the institute enter higher-quality technology circles and research communities.

Identify and analyze key industry trends by attending major conferences, summits and Exhibitions spanning AI research, Systems architecture, Computing and semiconductor, Product and device, and open-source ecosystems.

Design and organize technical workshops, seminars, closed-door roundtables, and expert visits. Identify and invite high-quality speakers from academia, industry, startups, and open-source communities.

Convert each workshop into expert relationships, technical insights, and potential collaboration opportunities.

Convert fragmented external information into useful internal intelligence.

Identify and move forward collaboration opportunities around the institute’s strategic research directions.

The total target annual compensation (based on 2,080 hours per year) ranges from $127,000 to $225,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.

Qualifications

About the ideal candidate:

  • Possess a solid understanding in at least two of the following areas:
  • AI, foundation models, multimodal AI, or agentic systems
  • Computing architecture, AI chips, GPUs, heterogeneous computing, or AI infrastructure
  • Operating systems, databases, compilers, distributed systems, or developer tools
  • Model serving, inference engines, cloud computing, edge computing, or AI platforms
  • Emerging devices, XR, AI PCs, AI phones, robotics, or next-generation terminals
  • Open-source communities, developer ecosystems, or software engineering infrastructure
  • Able to communicate professionally with Professors, academic researchers, enterprise research scientists, technical investors and venture partners.
  • Able to independently or jointly organize high-quality technical events, including but not limited to Workshops, Seminars, Closed-door roundtables, Academic exchanges, Institute open days and side meetings during major international conferences.
  • Ability to summarize expert views and conference observations, and write technology trend reports, expert maps, institution maps, and collaboration recommendations.
  • Ability to provide structured inputs for executives, research leaders, and technical teams.
  • Experience in universities, research institutes, corporate research labs, technology strategy teams, developer ecosystem teams, or industry research teams is an asset.
  • Experience organizing academic conferences, technical workshops, industry forums, or developer events is an asset.
  • Master’s or PhD-level research experience.
