Designated Work Location: 1199 Pacific Avenue, Hybrid

Position Type: Permanent on a Temporary Basis - Up to 18 months, Full-time

Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

Salary: $1,983.90 – $2,456.48 bi-weekly as per the Technologist – Grade 1 classification within the C.U.P.E Collective Agreement

Job Profile

Under the direction of the Services Development Branch Head, the Technologist 1 provides technical information and services to the Branch and customers.

As The Technologist 1 you Will
  • Identify easement requirements and prepare requests for easements.
  • Review construction drawings as part of checking that the works to be constructed are in accordance with the development agreement.
  • Review development proposals to ensure they conform to the City’s regional concept plans and the Development Agreement Parameters.
  • Provide information to other branches within the Department and to other City departments on matters relating to servicing of lands.
  • Provide information to developers, engineering consultants, lawyers and the general public on issues relating to servicing of lands.
  • May perform cost‑sharing calculations for oversized services and reviews cost‑sharing calculations submitted by engineering consultants.
  • May prepare estimates for calculating Local Improvement budget requirements.
  • Reviews construction security requirements and recommends their reduction and release.
  • Develop, maintain, and update computerized databases and spreadsheets.
  • Perform technical/clerical work as required to update records and files.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification.
Your Education and Qualifications Include
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized school of Technology, such as Red River College, and eligible for membership in CTTAM (Certified Technicians & Technologists Association of Manitoba) as a Civil, Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.).
  • Minimum two years of experience in the municipal engineering field including knowledge of servicing land with water, sewer and land drainage.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer applications including word processing, database, spreadsheets and graphics.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
  • IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada.
