Job summary

Domtar in Montreal, QC, seeks a Technician, Building to maintain and ensure the operation of building mechanical and electrical systems. This full-time permanent role supports Maison Domtar, Jardin Domtar, and CPE Origami with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of building mechanics experience, a diploma in General Building Maintenance, a forklift licence, and fluency in French with English proficiency.

Qualifications

• Diploma of Vocational Studies in General Building Maintenance or equivalent.
• At least five (5) years of experience in building mechanics or a related field.
• Forklift operator's licence.
• Fluent in spoken French with English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure proper operation of electrical, mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic systems.
• Inspect and maintain HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and safety systems.
• Coordinate with suppliers and supervise contractors to meet standards.
• Manage maintenance schedules and respond to employee requests.
• Perform maintenance and ensure the premises are clean and safe, including snow removal.
• Be available for mechanical emergencies 24/7.

The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Technician, Building. This job is full-time permanent.

The Building Services group's mission is to maintain the integrity of the building, facilities, and mechanical systems at Maison Domtar, Jardin Domtar, and CPE Origami in order to provide employees with a functional and safe work environment that supports efficiency and productivity.

Reporting to the Building Services Supervisor, your primary responsibility as a Technician will be to maintain and ensure the proper operation of machinery and mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic systems at Maison Domtar and Jardin Domtar. You will be responsible for identifying issues and ensuring they are repaired within a reasonable timeframe.

More specifically, you will be responsible for:

• Inspecting the operation of electrical, mechanical, electronic, and environmental control systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, refrigeration equipment, electrical distribution and lighting systems, water treatment systems, and elevators, and overseeing their maintenance;
• Following up on the building maintenance schedule by communicating with suppliers to coordinate work and supervising contractors to ensure that their work meets building management standards;
• Maintaining the building’s lighting and sanitary supplies, planning necessary purchases, and placing material orders;
• Responding to various employee requests;
• Performing maintenance work and ensuring that the interior, exterior, surrounding areas, and entire corporate head office property are kept clean and safe, including snow removal, litter collection, and cleaning slippery floors;
• Being available in the event of mechanical emergencies outside regular working hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Your profile:

• You hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies in General Building Maintenance or equivalent technical training;
• You have at least five (5) years of experience in building mechanics or a related field;
• You hold a forklift operator's licence;
• You are methodical, thorough, and committed to delivering high-quality work;
• You have good manual dexterity;
• You demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions in emergency situations;
• You demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public;
• You are proficient in spoken and written French and have oral proficiency in English.
