Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a self-motivated engineer to join our firmware and software team.

You will contribute to the design, development, unit testing, and verification of our PCIe Switchtec SoC firmware. Collaborate across sites in an agile environment that values technical excellence and teamwork, driving reviews, and partnering with chip design, emulation, validation, and applications engineering through pre-silicon and post-silicon bring-up.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 15+ years in Embedded Application Software or high-level Embedded Software.
  • Strong proficiency in C and at least one assembly language programming.
  • Expert in SoC, RTOS, multi-threading, and SMP firmware development.
  • Experience in PCIe, CXL, Infini-band, SAS/SATA, NVMe, Ethernet or FC.
  • Firmware design for silicon with pre/post-silicon bring-up and debugging.
  • Excellent research, analytical and documentation skills with strong communication.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented with ownership and minimal supervision.

  • Analyze requirements and design, develop, integrate, debug, verify firmware, drivers, software components, unit test frameworks, and verification systems.
  • Lead and participate in architecture, specification, design, and implementation reviews with cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with firmware and chip design, emulation, validation, and applications engineering across pre-silicon and post-silicon bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Investigate and resolve issues in lab and field environments.

Job Description

We are seeking a self‑motivated and energetic engineer to join our firmware and software team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, unit testing, and verification of our industry‑leading Switchtec™ System‑on‑Chip (SoC) PCI Express (PCIe) switching products.

You’ll collaborate with team members across multiple sites, working within an agile environment that values technical excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze product requirements and design, develop, integrate, debug, verify and validate firmware, drivers, software
  • components, unit test frameworks, verification systems, and DevOps tools
  • Lead and participate in architecture, specification, design, and implementation reviews with cross-functional team members
  • Collaborate with firmware teams and partner with chip design, emulation, validation, and application engineering teams on pre-silicon development and post-silicon bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and customer support
  • Investigate and resolve issues identified internally or reported by global customers in lab and field environments
  • Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including engineering documents, and customers facing materials
  • Mentor junior firmware engineers through design reviews, code reviews, process adherence, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 15 years of Embedded Application Software or high-level Embedded Software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in C and at least one assembly language programming
  • Expert in SoC, RTOS, multi‑threading, and SMP firmware development
  • Experience in any one or two high-speed protocol product development: PCIe, CXL, infini-band, SAS/SATA, NVMe, Ethernet or FC
  • Experience in firmware design for silicon products, with cross-functional collaboration across emulation, validation, and applications engineering teams throughout pre-silicon development and post-silicon bring-up, debug, and troubleshooting
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities with strong documentation and communication skills
  • Self‑motivated, team‑oriented, resourceful, and quality‑focused, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision
Value-add Qualifications
  • Experience leveraging AI to assist firmware and software development
  • Proven ability to lead cross-site teams and mentor engineers on complex firmware projects

We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. The annual base salary range for this position is $107,000- $226,000.*
