Job description

The Technical Services Representative position is located in Vancouver, BC and reports directly to the Technical Services Lead.

The Technical Services Representative (TSR) will act as the integrator—coordinating across mechanical, electrical, controls, and owner teams, as well as internal resources such as Estimating, Project Management, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), and System Design. This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role for a technically credentialed professional with 1‑3 years of relevant experience. You will be mentored by a team of industry experts with deep expertise in building science, mechanical, electrical, controls, and energy management. For the right candidate, this role would present opportunity for mentorship and progression towards advanced certification such as P.Eng. AScT or CTech. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct site surveys and audits of equipment and mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for service calls and maintenance contracts.
  • Assist with commissioning, documentation, and technical review of building systems.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and documentation for service agreements, energy audits, or code compliance.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings to support field technicians and project managers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Estimating, Project Management, VDC, Service, Construction, Facilities, Energy & Sustainability, Utilities) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Collaborate with field service teams to resolve design‑related field inquiries and ensure installations meet engineering standards and building codes.
  • Stay current with industry standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, BCBC, BCPC, CEC, and local building codes.
  • Support project management activities, including estimation, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Apply technical knowledge to optimize building performance and resolve complex system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Travel to various client sites to undertake the above activities.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree or diploma in engineering or technology (mechanical, electrical, building systems, or related field)
  • Professional designation(s) such as EIT, P. Eng. AScT or other building science designation would be an asset
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 1-3 years of experience in building systems integration, commissioning, estimation, project management, or related technical roles
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with MS365 Suite, SalesForce, AI tools, VDC platforms (e.g., Revit), and Building Automation System (BAS) application engineering platforms
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in buildings.
  • Understanding and familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, BCBC, BCPC, CEC and local building codes.
  • Ability to climb ladders and safely access mechanical/electrical rooms and rooftops when required (training provided).
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel within the Lower Mainland for site visits; in-office and field-based work required. (Must have own vehicle)
  • Valid Class 5 or higher BC Drivers' License and Clean Abstract.

The expected salary range for this role is between $70,000 and $85,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
