What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve :

  • A 5km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
  • Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
  • An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do

The Technical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of technical activities across the project, both internally and externally. They will communicate requirements, monitor technical activities and provide resolutions to technical issues and constraints that may arise.

Concretely, your tasks will be
  • Coordinate technical activities and processes between different internal stakeholders including engineers, designer, buyers, and project leaders
  • Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility
  • Monitor progress and performance of technical activities, taking appropriate action when needed
  • Communicate technical requirements and specifications to relevant stakeholders
  • Respond to technical questions and issues and provide timely recommendations and resolutions
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations
  • Monitor construction activities through regular site visits to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Communicate with external partners including consultants, subcontractors, and the construction team to integrate technical solutions
  • Ensure the projects technical aspects meet safety, and environmental requirements

Subsidiary of the VINCI Group, Janin Atlas is involved in large-scale construction and civil engineering projects in Canada. The headquarter of Janin Atlas is based in Montral, Qubec. We are currently involved in three major construction projects in Ontario valued at several billion Canadian dollars.

  • The construction of the subway line south in Toronto, involving a six-kilometer tunnel and associated excavation work. The project includes the design, construction, and handover of all tunnels (twin tubes of 6 km each), 7 stations (turnkey for : 1 at-grade station and 6 underground stations) and civil engineering works.

  • The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program includes the design and construction of a new deep water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This project will include a 1.5 km long tunnel, excavated by a pressurized tunnel boring machine (10.15 m diameter slurry), two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore), and a modular offshore intake structure, resting on the lakebed. This project is notable for its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning, and coordination.
