Job summary

Imperial is hiring a Technical Contact Engineer for our Nanticoke manufacturing site in Ontario. You will lead process improvements, provide technical support across operations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance safety, reliability and plant performance.

The role emphasizes hands-on troubleshooting, field involvement during startups/shutdowns, and driving long-term initiatives with senior technical resources. A chemical engineering degree and licensure readiness are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 3+ years of experience in refining and/or chemicals manufacturing preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operations, other engineering disciplines, mechanical personnel and support teams to ensure safe, reliable unit operations.
  • Assist with abnormal and non-routine operations including turnarounds and incident investigations.
  • Identify, develop, and implement operational and facility improvements focusing on safety, reliability, economics and sustainability.

What role you will play on our team

We are seeking Chemical and/or Process Engineers to join us as a Technical Contact Engineer for our manufacturing site in Nanticoke, ON.

Our Technical Contact Engineers play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our plant and are responsible for initiating and leading improvements to unit performance in safety, reliability, and profitability in a dynamic team environment. You will think strategically, execute thoughtfully, and collaborate across many teams, levels, and situations. In this role, you will serve as a process technical resource, providing technical and operational expertise to address complex processes across business teams, primarily supporting day-to-day unit operation troubleshooting and optimization along with supporting the senior technical resources within the team in developing and executing longer-term strategic initiatives.

What you will do
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders including operations, other engineering disciplines, mechanical personnel, and corporate technology support teams to support safe and reliable unit operations
  • Provide support of abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds and supporting incident investigations tied to unit abnormal operations
  • Support senior technical resources and cross functional teams to identify, develop, and implement operational and facility improvements with focus on safety, reliability, economics, and sustainability
  • Organize and design plant testing and product trials
  • Influence others and drive toward solutions without direct authority
  • Demonstrate flexibility to take on responsibilities beyond the defined role to support asset performance and business results
  • Ability to interface effective
  • Provide assistance in the field during plant startups, shutdowns or upsets
  • Demonstrate courage of conviction to drive healthy tension for both business team and corporate technology support to promote fit for purpose outcome
  • Support routine energy, environmental, and cost reporting
About you
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, as certified by an accredited/recognized institution
  • 3+ years of experience in refining and/or chemicals manufacturing roles
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
  • High degree of analytical and technical ability
  • Ability to communicate complex technical data clearly, tailored to intended audience
  • Strong attention to detail with handling high quantity and quality of work
  • Ability to effectively influence others without direct authority
  • Strong interpersonal effectiveness
  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies/optimization software
  • Risk assessment and HAZOP experience
  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modelling and evaluations)
  • Understanding of modelling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc)
