Role Purpose

The Technical Architect plays a critical role in designing and governing complex enterprise solutions for large‑scale transformation programmes such as Benefits Delivery Modernisation (BDM). This role ensures that all technical components align with programme objectives, security standards, and interoperability requirements across multiple workstreams. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud‑native architectures, COTS platforms, and large digital transformation programmes within public sector or social benefits environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define, evolve, and enforce technical architecture standards and patterns for programme‑wide solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, performance, and interoperability standards across all solution components.
  • Collaborate with Lead Technical Architect, enterprise architects, and delivery teams to align architecture decisions with business and programme goals.
  • Oversee integration of COTS and cloud‑native components, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Guide the implementation of Azure‑based platforms, APIs, microservices, and DevOps practices (IaC, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Lead technical governance reviews, solution walkthroughs, and sprint design sessions to maintain architectural integrity.
  • Ensure documentation of architecture decisions, wikis, and templates are consistent and compliant.
  • Provide technical leadership during major digital transformations, particularly in environments exceeding $50M+ in scope.
  • Mentor development teams, provide oversight on vendor integration, and facilitate knowledge transfer sessions with clients and partners.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering enterprise‑scale solutions in public sector or financial/social programmes.
  • Expertise in Azure Cloud architecture, DevOps, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, ARM templates, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of integration design, API management, and interoperability frameworks.
  • Experience leading architecture within large‑scale modernisation programmes or digital transformations ($50M+).
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills across technical and non‑technical audiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years in architecture or senior technical leadership roles.
  • Experience in large transformation programmes involving COTS integration or modernisation of legacy systems.
