The Team Leader, UX Research is responsible for leading, coaching and growing a team of UX professionals focused on user research and analysis for our digital assets; this includes guiding employees in both day‑to‑day operations as well as longer‑term performance and career planning. As a key member of the UX leadership team, the Team Leader, UX Research will help shape the organization's UX practice by establishing standards for UX research practices, optimizing UX research operations, and evolving UX research as a discipline within Medavie. As a professional in the field, the Team Leader is also expected to perform hands‑on research and analysis as needed to support execution.

This role is situated within the Digital Transformation Office, which was established to enable focused execution of Medavie’s digital strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing day‑to‑day UX research direction to team members, including guiding employees on tasks, reviewing work as needed, and advising on methods and best practices.
  • Supporting employee development through performance management and coaching, setting individual objectives and monitoring progress, encouraging learning and development, and supporting employee career development.
  • Amplifying the impact of the team by assessing and evolving team member responsibilities and job requirements, assessing team skills to identify and address gaps, scaling the team to support business needs, and leading recruitment efforts.
  • Fostering a positive and constructive employee experience, in collaboration with UX leadership team, by routinely collecting and acting on feedback, driving activities to encourage team engagement, and fostering a sense of connection and purpose within the team.
  • Managing team effort to achieve corporate and department goals, including responding to business requests and advising on UX research needs, planning and initiating work, assigning tasks, monitoring team progress and effort, and evaluating and reporting on success.
  • Contributing hands‑on to work efforts as needed to support the team, such as responding to business requests and advising on UX research needs, evaluating existing experiences and journeys, setting up user tests or surveys, conducting interviews or moderated user tests, reviewing and analyzing results, etc.
  • Maturing UX research as a discipline within Medavie by establishing UX research standards and resources, optimizing UX research workflows and engagement models, driving the UX Research Community of Practice within Medavie, and advising leadership with regards to UX research needs.
  • Raising awareness of the value of UX research across the organization by fostering positive interdepartmental relationships, offering a UX research perspective in cross‑functional strategy or design workshops, advocating for UX research in work assessment and planning activities, and collecting and sharing data related to how UX research success.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: University degree in a related field.
  • Work Experience: Working experience as a UX research professional (5+ years) with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Deep understanding of UX research methods and activities.
    • Experience with resource planning and project scheduling.
    • Excellent analytical, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
    • Well‑honed interpersonal skills to negotiate priorities, resolve conflicts, and communicate clearly and professionally.
    • Passionate about all things UX and other areas of design, technology and innovation.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of French is considered an asset.
