Overview

Responsibilities

The Team Leader, Environmental Services, ensures the quality and timely delivery of environmental services to the Client-Partners for moderate to large projects and/or programs, including providing advice, guidance and recommendations on environmental management issues. The incumbent supports the Client-Partners in meeting their environmental objectives in one or more practice areas (e.g. contaminated sites, hazardous materials, environmental assessments). The incumbent leads a team of professionals and manages the human resources responsibilities for the team. The incumbent also manages the Client-Partner relationship. The incumbent develops creative solutions and ensures the team is focused on collaboration, and quality and timeliness of deliverables.

KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive:

Primary

  • Provide leadership at the site level for developing and delivering environmental services, including cross-service line integration
  • Manage projects and programs (e.g. updating and tracking program financials, budget and schedule, overseeing and managing program staff and consultants)
  • Perform quality control by coordinating and reviewing statements of works, deliverables from consultants and contractors on environmental investigations, work plans, environmental assessments, plans and specifications
  • Develop and implement projects and programs
  • Provide technical support and/or lead procurement and contract management activities
  • Promote and manage business development opportunities
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the Client-Partners and/or stakeholders
  • Ensure quality standards are met, in line with corporate and Client-Partner expectations
  • Manage risk
  • Perform human resource functions (e.g. coach, supervise, mentor, plan and allocate resources, and manage performance)

Other

  • Develop environmental procedures, policies and directives
  • Develop and manage service level arrangements
  • Develop project plans and budgets
  • Support the completion of regional audits and implement recommendations for improvement
  • Other duties as assigned

General and Specific Knowledge

  • Best practices, methods, trends and legislation in environmental sciences and environmental engineering
  • Best practices and trends in financial management and human resources management
  • Project and risk management principles
  • Health and safety management

Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience

  • Minimum: university degree in biology, environmental sciences, environmental engineering or related field with five years’ relevant experience, or the equivalent
  • Preferred: specialized knowledge, training and certification (as applicable) in one or more environmental services practice area

Abilites

  • Use applicable computer software and operating systems
  • Apply project and risk management techniques
  • Demonstrate leadership and human resources management skills

  • Lead and manage direct reports

  • Typical office environment with occasional travel
