Job overview:

The successful candidate will function as a PV specialist with the additional responsibility of overseeing planning and execution of test plans and managing PV schedule and resources.

They will work closely with the development team; planning, designing, and executing manual and automated tests for robotic camera systems in the Ross Robotics product line, as well as managing the development of the lab infrastructure to meet future test challenges.

This position is a lab-based role located at our Ottawa Research & Development facility requiring 3+ days / week on-site in the office.

What the job is all about:

Test Planning:

  • Work with the CMS R&D leadership to identify work priorities, task assignments, and creating schedules and monitoring progress.
  • Support Agile development methodologies including the Modified Agile for Hardware Development (MAHD) Framework.
  • Attend Product Requirements review and participate in technical debates.
  • Participates in analysis and design walkthroughs.
  • Providing input to the design team to ensure that testing considerations are incorporated in the design (design for testability).
  • Translate the detailed requirements to a comprehensive test plan.
  • Drive detailed development & reviews of test plans with a strong emphasis on automation coverage and strategy.
  • Provide manager with detailed test estimates for project planning purposes.
  • Modify existing test plans and testing information to correct errors, to adapt to new use case scenarios, upgraded interfaces and performance enhancements.
  • Manage test plans and test cases in Jira/Zephyr.

Test Execution:

  • Accountable for the quality of work (own & PV team) delivered for the specific project.
  • Effective test case execution with real time status updates of the results.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot test case failures resulting in an action plan.
  • Provide accurate and detailed bug reporting throughout the testing process.
  • Assist product development in the investigation/reproducibility of product issues.
  • Be aware of and provide input to the automation effort.
  • Maintain test cases throughout the product development cycle.
  • Participate, when required, with the multi-functional team in bug triages.
  • Provide regular status report updates to the management team.

Lab prime:

  • In depth understanding of test / lab best practices.
  • Chair CMS Lab User Group.
  • Implement and enforce lab and workplace safety practices.
  • Maintain lab assets, tools, and equipment.
  • Manage the use and sharing of physical lab assets.
  • Develop and build test environments in preparation for product / solution evolution.

Function Leadership:

  • Ensure PV staff are assigned including scheduling of tasks, verification of work and monitoring of progress.
  • Responsible for performance evaluations and management of PV team.
  • Create a positive and rewarding team environment.

Other duties:

  • Act as an occasional trainer for existing and new CMS employees.
  • Assist the customer support team with customer quality issues.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years experience in designing and implementing test strategies such as functional testing, performance testing, system testing and lifecycle testing is essential.
  • Proficient with PV methodologies, hardware / software testing principles, concepts, verification, validation methods, test & risk management, required.
  • Team leadership experience (Line Management) is strongly preferred.
  • Proven PV experience in a mixed HW/SW product environment is essential – Robotics / Automation experience preferred.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks, and successful integration with software development projects is required.
  • Experience with the Agile scrum development model, and Modified Agile is an asset.
  • Knowledge of product development lifecycle(s) is required.
  • Self-starter, quick learner and are able to work with minimum supervision in meeting schedules and project deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and observational skills.
  • Organised and very detail oriented.
  • Willing to work in lab environment, including occasional lifting as required to maintain lab area and equipment.
