Job summary

Little Scholars Academy in Toronto seeks a confident, hardworking primary/elementary teacher (OCT or equivalent) to join our growing team. You will support students with homework, plan individual and group reading and math lessons, and work as part of a collaborative teaching environment.

Three classes daily (preschool, JK/SK, and an afterschool reading/homework club for grades 1-4) run 9:00–18:00 (9–17 in summer). Commitment: at least September–June, or a 1-year contract.

Qualifications

• Must have OCT or equivalent teaching certification.
• Extremely strong English skills.
• Experience teaching from preschool to grade 5.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Ability to plan monthly, weekly and daily lessons and learn the Little Scholars curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3 classes a day: preschool, JK/SK & an afterschool reading and homework club (grade 1-4). Each class is between 2-3 hours.
• Hours are 9:00–6:00 with an hour lunch (9–5 in summer for camp).
• Commit to 1 year contract or September–June.

Job description

Looking For:

Confident, hard working and motivated primary/elementary school teacher (OCT or equivalent) to add to our growing team. Teacher will be required to support students with homework from school as well as plan individual and group lessons to help with reading and math skills. Candidate must be willing to learn as well as work as part of a team. Candidate will be required to have strong classroom management skills while working with students from preschool to grade 5. You must be able to create and implement monthly, weekly and daily lesson plans and be willing to learn the Little Scholars curriculum. We are looking for someone who is creative and can think outside of the box, who believes in the importance of education and is eager and excited to help and motivate students. Candidate must have EXTREMELY strong English skills along with having some teaching experience.

Candidate will teach 3 classes a day, preschool, JK/SK & an afterschool reading and homework club (grade 1-4). Each class is between 2-3 hours in length. Your working hours are from 9-6:00 with an hour lunch and 9-5 in the summer for camp. (can be negotiated for the right candidate)

Must be willing to commit to 1 year contract or at minimum September - June.

Here at Little Scholars Academy, our focus is on early reading, writing and math skills. We believe teaching students through experiences they can relate to, finding this the most practical and natural way for a student to be successful in their education. Our program is very unique and geared towards independent learning. Each student works at their own pace and teachers are required to plan their lessons accordingly. Students need to want to learn and be interested in what they are learning about. This is a process that cannot be forced yet needs to be instilled. When this is done correctly learning becomes fun and enjoyable for the student. At little Scholars Academy, our goal is to motivate students so they become confident with their academics, instill a love for learning and continue to help them on their academic journey!

Salary: $43,000.00 to $50,000.00 /year - with benefits
