Job description

Teacher — Career Life Education 10 (Grade 10)

Location: Abbotsford, BC · Start date: [September 2026] · Status: [Part-time]

DPS is an independent English-language K–12 school serving approximately 1,000 students in Abbotsford, BC. While Punjabi language and Sikh studies form part of our educational program, instruction is delivered in English. We welcome applicants from all faiths and backgrounds who are committed to supporting an inclusive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment.

The Opportunity

Grade 10 is a launch point. Students begin to look seriously past school toward post-secondary study, careers, and the adult lives they are building. Career Life Education 10 is where they do that thinking — mapping their strengths, exploring pathways, developing financial and personal-planning skills, and connecting with the wider community.

We are seeking a teacher who can bring this program to life for our Grade 10 students — someone genuinely interested in career pathways and pathway thinking, and skilled at guiding adolescents through decisions that will shape the years ahead.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver Career Life Education 10 in line with the BC curriculum through regular classroom instruction.
  • Guide students through the core learning areas: personal development and self-awareness, career and post-secondary exploration, financial literacy, and educational and career pathway planning.
  • Support students in beginning the reflective and planning work that carries forward into CLC 11–12 and the Capstone.
  • Facilitate meaningful community-connection and workplace experiences that meet the program's requirements.
  • Use competency-based, proficiency-focused assessment aligned to BC standards, and communicate progress clearly to students and families.
  • Partner with our CLC 11–12 teacher to ensure a coherent Grade 10–12 Career Education pathway.
  • Contribute to the wider life and values of the school community.
What We're Looking For Required
  • BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification, or eligibility to obtain certification
  • Genuine interest in career development, post-secondary pathways, and adolescent decision-making.
  • Strong classroom management and the ability to build a positive, engaging learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills with adolescents and families.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community of Dasmesh Punjabi School.
Strong assets
  • Experience teaching CLE, CLC, Career Education, Planning, or a related pathways program in the BC context.
  • Familiarity with BC's Core Competencies and the Career Education curriculum.
  • A background or professional network in one or more career sectors relevant to our students — e.g., trades, health sciences, business, technology, education.
  • Cultural connection to, or genuine appreciation for, the Punjabi-Sikh community we serve.

What We Offer

  • The rare chance to build a signature program.
  • A purpose-built makerspace and dedicated funding for tools, kits, software and platforms.
  • Inclusive: In keeping with the principles of Sikhism, we welcome talented individuals from all religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Practicing Sikhism is not a requirement.
  • Supportive: Our educators enjoy a reduced workload, with dedicated time for preparation and grading.
  • Benefits: Competitive pay, extracurricular club bonuses, and professional development opportunities.

Dasmesh Punjabi School welcomes applicants of all backgrounds. Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check (vulnerable sector). We thank all applicants; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
