ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Tax Technician you will be responsible for delivering a great client experience that results in strong and lasting client relationships. To succeed in this role you will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Preparing year‑end compilation engagements, corporate tax returns including federal and provincial filings for clients operating across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Preparing and filing federal and provincial sales tax returns, personal tax returns and trust tax returns.
  • Preparing tax slips such as T4s, T5s and other relevant slips as required.
  • Supporting clients with their payroll compliance requirements which may include review of payroll remittance reports and other relevant payroll filings or related correspondence with CRA.
  • Managing ad‑hoc requests, questions and emails from fellow team members by appropriately prioritizing them and ensuring timely communication in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
  • Assisting in preparing responses to CRA audits and notices including gathering supporting documentation corresponding directly with CRA and communicating with the LiveCA team throughout the process.
  • Supporting the team in researching tax‑related questions and compiling reference materials as directed.
  • Assisting with the preparation of tax election forms and related filings such as T2057s and voluntary disclosure applications.
  • Assisting in corporate reorganization and other special tax engagements with direction by the Manager or Senior Manager, including but not limited to carrying out the following responsibilities:
    • Supporting in the drafting of legal instruction memos.
    • Preparing supporting documents such as share‑capital tables, notice‑to‑reader valuation calculations and safe income calculations.
    • Working with dynamic and growing clients; other related duties may be assigned in support of client needs.
    • Providing coverage for colleagues as needed.
    • Contributing to innovation which may include initiating process improvement, documenting new or updated procedures, developing standardized templates and collaborating with the larger team on such initiatives.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in a business program.
  • CPA designation not required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in tax compliance or public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial statements and Canadian tax basics (corporate and personal).
  • Skilled in learning new programs and systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to multi‑task competing priorities.
  • Passion for excellent client services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with others towards a common goal.
