Job summary

Main Responsibilities

  • Applying Lock Out Tag Out and working experience
  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations
  • Pull wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors
  • Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels
  • Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits
  • Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair
  • Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and replace faulty components
  • Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signalling devices and heating and cooling systems
  • Prepare and execute testing activities for technologies of railway signaling under the direction of his/her hierarchy and in conformance with ALSTOM Transport policies and standards.
  • Develop and Review Test & Commissioning (T&C) procedures for the signaling sub-system and against contractual requirements
  • Execution of specific Field Testing activities according to the testing procedure / documentation and Team Leader a/o Project Commissionning Manager (PrCOM) instruction.
  • Adheres to Testing schedules and Testing plans for internal and external customers
  • Performs Field Test & commissioning activities with quality while meeting customer, Safety expectations and project schedule
  • Capture all test results clearly and accurately and prepare technical test reports for customer submission.
  • Uses the correct tools and equipment to perform the electrical and mechanical test activities. Ensures the equipment and tools in their care are calibrated and easily tracked.
  • Uses and adheres to the use of Personal Protective Equipments as defined by the EHS plan and customer requirements.
  • Alerts the hierarchical superiors by any risk identified during the testing activities, and alerts management (Project Test & Commissioning Manager, Wayside Installation & Field Operations Manager, etc.) if any EHS risk is identified.
  • Read, understand and create Test Plan, Procedures, Pre-Printed Data Sheet and certificates in coordination with T&C Leader.

Experience

  • Valid 309A Electrical License (Ontario) or ability to transfer licence to Ontario.
  • Red seal certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial experience
  • Minimum 5 year of residential experience
  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Can read and interpret Book of Plans, Electrical and engineering drawings.
  • Experienced in interpreting engineering drawings (i.e. Book of Plans, Schematics, Relay Logic)
  • Experienced in writing/checking Test procedures, technical reports and communicating at Technical & Managerial Team levels
  • Experience with projects and customers under Transport Canada and Canadian Transportation Agency.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Railway Operating Rules considered an asset.
  • Rail signaling industry with knowledge will be considered an asset.
  • Direct Experience with the Metrolinx system and operating environment is an asset
  • Metrolinx Personal Track Safety certification will be an asset.
  • Working Knowledge of Metrolinx Rail Corridor Access Request procedures will be considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and accurately
  • Valid G Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Detailed technical knowledge of electricity, with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Completed ARC Flash training/WHIMIS Training/Working from Heights Cert
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Skilled in standard computer applications
  • Ability to make solid decisions under pressure

  • Work location could be across Metrolinx different Corridors and flexibility to travel is a requirement.

Desirable Skills/Certification

  • Have knowledge in Metrolinx Operating Rules and Signal Maintenance experience.
  • Previous field experience on Metrolinx projects would be an asset.
  • Working experience in installing and adjusting switch would be an asset.
  • MLX PTS, CROR, Working at Heights, First Aid & CPR training would be an asset.
