Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is a leading engineering and consulting firm working on the ALTO high-speed rail project connecting Quebec City to Toronto. We seek a senior systems engineer to lead core systems engineering activities and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, a PE or eligibility, and strong French/English communication. MBSE experience and knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 are assets. Hybrid work environment and diverse opportunities are offered.

Missions/Main Duties

Independently leads systems engineering tasks and contributes to multidisciplinary project delivery.

The Detailed Responsibilities Include

• Identify, analyze, and document stakeholder needs by engaging with clients, users, and internal teams to understand objectives, constraints, and system-level expectations.
• Coordinate inputs from subject matter experts and design teams to support the structured development of system documentation and ensure relevant information is captured at the appropriate level.
• Facilitate cross-functional technical meetings and workshops to capture system characteristics, clarify assumptions, and align contributors in support of system engineering deliverables.
• Support system architecture activities by providing structured engineering input, maintaining consistency across related artefacts, and contributing to readiness for future Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) implementation.
• Maintain key system engineering structures, including the System Breakdown Structure (SBS) and Functional Breakdown Structure (FBS), ensuring consistency with project documentation and engineering activities.
• Contribute to systems engineering best practices and support the management of changes affecting requirements and system engineering artefacts.

Profile/Skills

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Professional engineering designation or eligibility for registration.
• Additional training or certification in systems engineering or project delivery, such as ASEP, CSEP, or PMP, would be considered an asset.

Years of experience: Minimum 10 years of experience.

Technical Competencies

• Good understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes, especially in stakeholder needs analysis, requirements development, and system definition.
• Familiarity with systems engineering standards and frameworks such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
• Understanding of system architecture concepts, functional analysis, and system decomposition in complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Familiarity with MBSE principles and systems modelling approaches; experience with related tools would be an asset.
• Ability to apply structured and methodical engineering practices to support technical coordination, documentation consistency, and cross-functional alignment.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
