  • Open-source technologies preferred (Linux, Spring, React).
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP).
  • Distributed computing experience preferred.
  • Automation to improve team processes preferred.
  • CS fundamentals (OOP, OS, algorithms, data structures).
  • Documentation and problem-solving skills preferred.

About the Role: Systems Development Engineer Intern

This internship puts you on an active engineering team where you’ll build, test, and operate real products and services. You’ll write code in at least one language, create or improve tools that form part of a larger system, and contribute to automation that improves safety and agility for other builders.

You’ll also be matched with a manager and a mentor throughout the summer. Beyond your core project, there are networking events and activities with other interns, and structured opportunities for personal and professional development.

Applicants must have at least one quarter, semester, or trimester remaining in their studies after the internship concludes.

Benefits and Salary

The starting pay for this position is $91,630 CAD annually. Amazon also provides basic life and AD&D insurance and paid time off, along with other resources to support health and well-being during the internship.

The internship runs for a maximum of 12 weeks at a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Requirements / Skills

The basic qualifications below are required for this role. The preferred qualifications are not mandatory but will strengthen your application.

  • Enrolment in or completion of a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (required); the academic program must be physically located in Canada
  • Coding, scripting, or automation experience in at least one language such as Python, C, C++, Java, Ruby, or PowerShell (required)
  • 18 years of age or older (required)
  • At least one quarter, semester, or trimester remaining in studies after the internship concludes (required)
  • Open-source technologies such as Linux, Spring, or React (preferred)
  • TCP/IP networking fundamentals and protocols such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, and SNMP (preferred)
  • Distributed computing experience with programs and systems (preferred)
  • Automating and simplifying team development, test, and operations processes (preferred)
  • Computer science fundamentals including object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis (preferred)
  • Documentation and problem-solving skills with attention to detail (preferred)

Enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related discipline. Academic program physically located in Canada. Experience coding, scripting, automating in at least one language (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, Ruby, or PowerShell). 18 years of age or older. Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
