The Opportunity

The Parkland School Division currently has a Regular Full-time (1.0 FTE) Systems Administrator I position available at Centre for Education in Stony Plain, Alberta. This role has a diverse mix of administering a multitude of systems within our technology infrastructure. This professional position has knowledge, training and is versed in all support realms of network, computer and server hardware, on-premise and cloud based technologies. The desired candidate can troubleshoot, trace and repair technical issues from the desktop to the core systems. Other duties that may be assigned will be taken on with a positive, productive and results oriented attitude.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the IT team to support and maintain core IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 network support, assisting the Network Administrator with maintenance, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting of network and connectivity issues (including routers, switches, firewalls, controllers, wireless infrastructure, VoIP, and cabling).
  • Manage user accounts and access across multiple platforms, resolving issues related to Google Workspace (Google/Cloud accounts) and Active Directory (Domain accounts).
  • Proactively maintain, deploy, and configure end-user hardware (laptops, desktops, Chromebooks, iPads, and mobile phones).
  • Assist senior Systems Administrators with the maintenance and configuration of physical and virtual server infrastructure hardware.
  • Manage and maintain endpoint configuration and deployment using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM) and Microsoft Intune/Autopilot.
  • Perform routine account and device management within Active Directory (user creation, group policy management, device trusts, and access permissions).
  • Administer, configure, and integrate services within Google Workspace for Education and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Develop and execute basic automation and administrative tasks using PowerShell and GAM scripting to streamline workflows.
  • Perform other related technical support and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
  • A degree or diploma in Information Systems Technology (Information Systems / Network Management) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Junior to Intermediate knowledge of Windows and Chrome OS based hardware.
  • Junior to Intermediate knowledge of Google Workspace.
  • Junior to Intermediate experience with troubleshooting/resolving in Active Directory and Entra Hybrid Active Directory.
  • Junior to Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Intune.
  • Junior to Intermediate knowledge of Application & Database systems management.
  • Junior to Intermediate experience with deploying, configuring, maintaining and administering Cisco networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls, controllers, wireless infrastructure, VoIP) in a multi-site WAN environment.
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting/resolving network issues.
  • Junior to Intermediate experience in Windows Server Administration (Server 2019, Server 2022).
  • Junior to Intermediate level experience with virtualization technology and associated server hardware.
  • Vendor certifications including Microsoft, Cisco, and Google.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • The ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Solutions driven, out of the box thinker.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required to travel periodically to school sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry desktop, server or networking equipment.

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. This position requires high levels of oral and written communication, problem solving and teamwork, strong client-service skills with a proactive approach. The ability to work with demanding timelines, sensitive and confidential information in a team-oriented environment is a must.

This position requires a current criminal record check and child intervention record check. This position is an out-of-scope Non-Union Group position and is a 12-month calendar position. Hours of Work: 37.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday) flexibility in scheduling is available. Pay Rate: $63,105.08-$79,944.48/annum.
