ABOUT THE ROLE

The Systems Administrator, Windows is responsible for the administration, development, maintenance, and support of enterprise Microsoft technologies, including Windows servers, Active Directory, SQL databases, M365 applications, network services, WiFi, and SharePoint Services. The Systems Administrator ensures the efficient operation of the Microsoft components of University infrastructure, including cloud‑based infrastructure. The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing Tier 2 technical support for the University community. They are also responsible for leading and advising on systems design, technology planning and providing back up support for other functions in Information Technology Services as needed.

AS THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT, YOU SHOULD POSSESS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Minimum five years’ technical experience with Microsoft enterprise products. Some software experience required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with PowerShell, SharePoint Designer, InfoPath, Visual Studio, VBScript.
  • Demonstrated experience with administering and configuring M365 applications such as Azure AD, Teams, email, and SharePoint Online.
  • Microsoft Certification Solutions Associate (MCSA) Windows Server is preferred.
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices, processes and tools is required.
  • Microsoft Certification Solutions Expert (MCSE) SharePoint certification or equivalent is an asset.
  • Experience with Linux server environments is an asset.
  • Experience working in an ITIL based service environment is an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate and deal effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven system diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in C# and .Net using the Visual Studio development environment.
  • Proficient with Windows Operating System including Windows Server and related technologies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, Exchange, Active Directory.
  • Comfortable working with Infrastructure‑as‑a‑Service (AWS).
  • Ability to work with considerable independence as well as productively and supportively in a team environment.
  • Ability to keep current in area of expertise.
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize work between project assignments and support issues.
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evenings.
TYPICAL DUTIES
  1. Installs, maintains, and provides technical support on various services, such as databases, information systems (such as e‑mail, ERP integration, AD, etc.), and web applications within a AWS environment. Ensures the security and integrity of information systems, communication channels, and data, including confidential and sensitive information. Implements controls related to spam, phishing, unauthorized access to servers and systems, firewalls, user accounts, domain administration and potential security vulnerabilities. Monitors security related logs and responds to identified issues. Manages the provisioning of accounts on selected systems.
  2. Deploys and manages all Microsoft Servers and related systems and services within an AWS environment. Administers and maintains all servers and services based on Microsoft enterprise technology including Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, and M365.
  3. Provides technical support to users and others in ITS. Provides Tier 2 Help Desk support on security, Active Directory, applications, and other technical matters.
  4. In conjunction with other members of the ITS team, designs new systems, configures and administers servers and M365 services, including security patching, analyzing system logs, operating system updates, user account management, and monitoring performance and capacity.
  5. Works with the internal community to implement, propose and provide applicable fixes and enhancements to SharePoint websites and other services hosted on Microsoft servers.
  6. Works with vendors on troubleshooting or creation and implementation of new features.
  7. Develops and maintains SharePoint sites and security settings. Provides recommendations for additional architecture as needed for test and production environments. Administers all SharePoint security settings.
  8. Creates and maintains supporting documentation for server/software implementation details, maintenance processes, and troubleshooting techniques.
  9. Participates in regular team status meetings and provides input on development and administration activities.
  10. Acts in a backup capacity during the absence of other ITS staff as required.
  11. Performs other related duties as required.
