Job summary

WSP is seeking a System Safety Specialist to shape safer rail and transit projects. You will support hazard management, risk assessment, and safety documentation across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada and EN standards.

Hybrid role with no travel, focusing on internal design and RAM+S collaboration. A strong background in engineering safety and effective technical writing will help you contribute to System Safety Reports and Safety Case artefacts across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or higher.
• 2–5 years of experience in system, functional, or technical safety; internship or co-op considered.
• Competency in functional and technical safety, including hazard identification and analysis.
• Experience with qualitative, semi-quantitative, and quantitative risk assessment methods (HAZID, SHA, FTA, FMECA) and risk matrices.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations, CMREA, and EN 50126/50128/50129 is an asset.
• Rail and transit project experience and P.Eng designation are assets.

Help shape the future of rail and transit safety by contributing to projects that improve how people and communities move. As a System Safety Specialist, you will support the development, documentation, and maintenance of safety processes that help multidisciplinary project teams identify hazards, assess risk, define safety requirements, and deliver safe, reliable, and compliant transportation systems.

This is a hybrid position with no travel requirements. The role is not client-facing and will primarily involve collaboration with internal design, Human Factors, RAM+S, and project teams.

Your Impact

• Review safety evidence to help demonstrate compliance with applicable safety requirements, standards, and regulations.

• Apply relevant safety standards and regulations, including Transport Canada requirements, CSA R114:22 (CMREA), and EN 50126/50128/50129, throughout the project lifecycle.
• Strengthen project outcomes through clear technical writing, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
• Help advance safe, dependable rail and transit systems that support communities and improve mobility.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, such as Functional Safety, Industrial, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related technical field.
• 2-5 years of experience in system, functional, or technical safety; internship or co-op experience may be considered.
• Competency in functional and technical safety, including familiarity with hazard identification and analysis.
• Experience or familiarity with qualitative, semi-quantitative, and quantitative risk assessment methods, including HAZID, SHA, FTA, FMECA, and risk matrices.
• Good technical writing, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare clear safety documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Knowledge of Transport Canada regulations, CSA CMREA, and EN 50126/50128/50129 is considered an asset.
• Experience in rail and transit projects and eligibility for P.Eng. designation are considered assets.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $85,100 - $112,800

MB & ON: $77,700 - $107,000

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $76,900 - $102,100
