Job summary

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is seeking a talented Systems Planner for a temporary role through December 2027. This hybrid position reports to the Manager, Transit Systems Planning and involves developing policies, coordinating studies, and modeling fleet requirements to support a safe, reliable transit network.

You will prepare reports, present to senior TTC management and external groups, and engage in inter-agency research initiatives while promoting inclusive and accessible services

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of urban transportation planning, statistics, policy development and related issues.
  • Strong analytic capabilities and experience with data analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with MS Office including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in complex analyses including cost-benefit and risk analyses, and explore operating and technology strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise on medium and long-range service planning projects.
  • Prepare TTC Board reports and research papers for internal use.

The TTC is looking for a talented Systems Planner to join our team. This is a temporary position until the end of December 2027.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager, Transit Systems Planning you will initiate and develop system policies, practices, and standards; undertake and co-ordinate system planning research and studies; develop and monitor fleet requirements; prepare reports and other correspondence; make presentations to senior TTC management, public organizations and community groups; and represents the department on internal and external committees Specifically you will:

  • Participate in complex technical analyses, including cost-benefit and risk analyses, alternative operating and technology strategies, and the introduction of new types of service.
  • Provide technical expertise on medium and long-range service planning projects.
  • Prepare TTC Board reports on service policy and system planning matters as well as research papers for internal use.
  • Make presentations to senior TTC management, public organizations, and community groups.
  • Represent the department on internal and external committees. Represent the department on inter-agency research initiatives such as network studies, city official plan policies, long term city strategy, and action plans.
  • Promote a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.   • Sound knowledge of urban transportation planning, statistics, policy development, including a good understanding of related economic, environmental, political and social issues
  • Strong analytic capabilities and experience with data analysis
  • Ability to work effectively with MS Office including MS Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to write data and trends in a clear and concise manner
  • Well-developed analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral communication, presentation, and report-writing skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects and to independently carry out research studies
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
