Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is seeking a Platforms Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for vehicle-level communications systems development, integration, and validation. You will work with cross-functional teams to design, test, and verify installations in ground combat vehicles and mobile platforms.

The role requires 6+ years in systems engineering, familiarity with MIL-STD, ISO standards, and tools like MATLAB/Simulink and DOORS/Jama.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 6+ years of relevant systems engineering experience, preferably with vehicle-mounted communications or electronic systems.
  • Experience with system architecture, requirements management, integration, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink, DOORS/Jama, and cable/harness design software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer-facing skills.

  • Lead and mentor junior members, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships up to managerial levels, representing the team’s technical needs.
  • Lead technical reviews and provide guidance and mentoring to engineering team members.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including ICDs, engineering reports, risk assessments, and briefs.
  • Drive requirements traceability, configuration management, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure designs comply with MIL-STD, ISO 9001, DoD, and EMI/EMC requirements.
  • Support vehicle inspections, retrofit activities, field modifications, and customer engagements.

Job Description

We are seeking a Platforms Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for the development, integration, and validation of vehicle‑level communications systems. The Platforms Team works on designing installations for Communication Systems within ground combat vehicles and other mobile structures. Communication Systems have become some of the most complicated subsystems that are installed with vehicle platforms. These systems require specialized knowledge and skillsets to design and qualify. The Platforms Team works closely with end customers as well as OEMs in order to ensure the systems are installed in accordance with our strict requirements and function as intended.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of system requirements, architectures, interfaces, and technical solutions for vehicle communications systems.
  • Lead trade studies and technical assessments, balancing performance, weight, power, volume, reliability, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Provide technical direction for system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation on testbeds and prototype vehicles.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to establish and maintain necessary lab resources – including specialized equipment, testing infrastructure and workspace - specific to integration and testing of the platform’s installation design.
  • Lead and mentor junior members providing direction with tasks and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships up to managerial levels, representing the team’s technical needs and advocating for resources.
  • Lead technical reviews and provide guidance and mentoring to engineering team members.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including ICDs, engineering reports, risk assessments, and technical briefings.
  • Drive requirements traceability, configuration management, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure designs and engineering activities comply with applicable MIL‑STD, ISO 9001, DoD, and EMI/EMC requirements.
  • Support vehicle inspections, retrofit activities, field modifications, and customer technical engagements.
Qualifications

  • Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, DOORS/Jama, and cable/harness design software.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and customer‑facing skills.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Additional Information

The hiring range for this position is $92,000-$110,000. Our goal is to provide a fair and competitive offer based on an assessment of internal equity and your qualifications, including:
