Job summary

A Toronto-based animation studio is seeking a System Administrator to ensure technology runs smoothly and securely. The role involves managing Linux and Windows servers, providing technical support to creative teams, and overseeing storage systems. Ideal candidates will have strong troubleshooting skills and experience in animation or post-production environments. This is a hybrid role requiring some on-site work in Toronto.

Qualifications

System Administrator>

Industrial Brothers is looking for a System Administrator to help keep our studios technology running smoothly and securely. If youre a hands-on IT professional who loves problem-solving optimizing performance and supporting a creative environment this role is your chance to make a direct impact on how our artists and production teams bring stories to life.

What Youll Do
  • Keep systems humming : Manage and maintain Linux and Windows servers including Active Directory DNS / DHCP and file services.
  • Virtualize efficiently : Deploy monitor and optimize virtual machines and containers in Proxmox or VMware environments.
  • Manage storage : Oversee centralized NAS systems (TrueNAS Qumulo NFS SMB) to ensure uptime performance and data integrity.
  • Safeguard data : Maintain reliable backup and replication tools (rclone Duplicati rsync Oracle Cloud) and ensure disaster recovery readiness.
  • Support the floor : Provide responsive technical support to staff across production creative and technical teams from render access to licensing fixes.
  • Secure the network : Administer firewalls switches and VLANs (OPNsense Mellanox or similar) ensuring stable and secure connectivity.
  • Enable remote work : Manage VPNs Cloudflare tunnels and Teradici PCoIP systems for seamless distributed collaboration.
  • Stay proactive : Monitor performance dashboards track capacity and address bottlenecks before they become issues.
  • Document everything : Maintain clear documentation for configurations procedures and troubleshooting creating reliable repeatable processes.
  • Collaborate creatively : Partner with the IT and Pipeline teams to deploy and manage production software like Maya Houdini Storyboard Pro and Substance.
What You Bring
  • 35 years of systems administration experience ideally in an animation VFX or post-production studio.
  • Solid hands-on knowledge of :
  • Linux and Windows Server administration
  • Virtualization (Proxmox VMware Xen)
  • Storage systems (TrueNAS Qumulo NFS SMB)
  • Networking (VLANs OPNsense DHCP / DNS VPN Cloudflare tunnels)
  • Backup and replication (rclone Duplicati rsync Oracle Cloud)
  • Experience with scripting and automation (Bash Python or PowerShell).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills organization and attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator who can translate technical solutions for creative teams.
  • Process-driven with excellent documentation and follow-through.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with containerized environments (Docker).
  • Familiarity with render and production pipelines including ShotGrid Deadline or similar tools.
