Job summary

Modine Manufacturing Company in Calgary, Canada, is seeking an engineer to lead post-launch activities, conduct VA/VE studies, and own ECR/ECO processes. You will implement DFMs, support CAD/DFM updates, and partner with operations, quality, and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • CI mindset with Lean Manufacturing.
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and cross-functional work.
  • HVAC industry experience or heat transfer, including sheet metal design.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems.
  • Familiarity with ECR/ECO processes.
  • Safety-first design ethics to reduce hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead post-launch engineering activities for design updates and manufacturability improvements.
  • Evaluate & estimate VA/VE changes to reduce costs and improve DFMs.
  • Own end-to-end VA/VE design updates with ECR/ECO oversight, BOM release and initial production trials.
  • Drive factory floor troubleshooting and 8D root cause analyses with operations and quality teams.
  • Collaborate on CAD & DFM updates with designers and drafts teams.
  • Facilitate multi-site and supplier collaboration.
  • Travel domestically or internationally up to 15%.

Position Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Post-Launch Engineering Activities: Coordinate and execute engineering activities for design updates and manufacturability improvements in production.
  • Evaluate & Estimate VA/VE Changes: Conduct preliminary design feasibility studies, technical reviews, and engineering evaluations to support VA/VE cost reductions and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) improvements.
  • Implement Engineering Change: Own the end-to-end execution of approved VA/VE design updates, including ECR/ECO approval oversight, drawing and BOM release, and initial production trials.
  • Drive Factory Floor Troubleshooting & 8D Root Cause Analysis: Partner directly with operations and quality teams to rapidly troubleshoot daily manufacturing roadblocks, utilizing structured 8D methodology to identify root causes, implement immediate containment actions, and design permanent corrective/preventative engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate on CAD & DFM Updates: Partner closely with designers and drafting teams to develop and refine detailed 3D CAD models and drawings, ensuring updates are optimized for assembly and fabrication.
  • Facilitate Multi-Site & Supplier Collaboration: Serve as the technical bridge interfacing between operations, manufacturing engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve day-to-day operations and design-related issues.
  • Travel: Travel domestically or internationally up to 15% (primarily to manufacturing facilities, supplier sites, or customer installations for troubleshooting and validation).
Required Education & Qualifications
  • A degree in engineering or related technical discipline with 1-3+ years engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline
  • An understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • A continuous improvement (CI) mindset and familiarity with Lean Manufacturing
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally
  • Prior experience with heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or other HVAC industry experience, including cosmetic or structural sheet metal design
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Request and Change Order processes
  • Safety-First design ethics with a commitment to reducing workplace hazards through design
