  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with heights training is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geomatics or related field is an asset.

Position Overview

As a Surveyor, you will play an integral role in establishing and maintaining methods for safe, accurate, and efficient Survey Field Operations. You will have responsibilities over field survey operations and should plan to spend the majority of your time in the field performing survey field operations. You will also be expected to lead and teach more junior surveyors good surveying practices. The majority of the operations will be during the day Monday to Friday; however, the applicant should expect some varying times/shift type scheduling depending on the project requirements.

Responsibilities

Field Survey Operations:

  • Implement Safety in every aspect of their working duties
  • Implementing the project survey plan specific to field operations.
  • Oversee the operation with periodic reviews of record-keeping, field procedures, and survey audits to ensure that all work is performed efficiently and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate and legible field notes; sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys in order to describe, clarify, and assume liability for work performed.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at project sites.
  • Prepare site surveying documents/ reports and present findings
  • Ensure maintenance equipment and well-calibrated
  • Setting and maintenance of control network.
  • Performing layout and drawing clarifications
  • Supervising, teaching, and leading more junior members of the team
Qualifications
  • Committed to working safely and getting the job done right the first time
  • Must be willing to work 40-45 hours per week, occasionally it may be required to work some irregular hours (and occasionally weekend shifts)
  • 3-10 years' experience in Construction Survey, Field Engineering, traversing, leveling, layouts, or a related experience is required
  • Ability to coordinate with different trades, field, and other construction team members
  • Understanding common Canadian coordinate systems
  • Surveying experience in Nuclear/Large scale construction project is an asset
  • GPS, leveling, and robotic total station experience is required preferablywith Trimble/ Leica equipment
  • Must be able to apply intermediate concepts of Trigonometry, Mathematics, Calculus, and Geomatics to perform calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage)
  • Strong computer knowledge to use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other computer-assisted design software
  • Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in safety, quality, and productivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
  • Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams
  • Working at heights trained is an asset
  • Bachelor's degree in Geomatics or Diploma in Civil Engineering Tech or equivalent is an asset
Working Conditions
  • Will manage a diverse workload; must be able to handle stress and immediate deadlines
  • Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management
  • Occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds and walk on uneven surfaces
  • Would be able to safely work at heights and underground passages
  • Must be able to work regularly scheduled hours and occasional irregular hours

Other Requirements:

  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

Base Compensation:$80,000/yr -$95,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
