Lloyd's Register in Halifax, Canada seeks an experienced Naval Surveyor for New Construction and Existing Ship Surveys. You will assess design, production, and in-service aspects of engineering assets, applying formal procedures and industry standards.

The role may include project management responsibilities, client discussions, and delivery of compliant products and services. A strong professional background and ongoing CPD are essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent recognized by Lloyd's Register in engineering or physical science.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineering status.
  • Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • Ability to apply general and specialist engineering knowledge to enable technology.
  • Apply theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, and maintain engineering products and services.
  • Proficiency in technical and commercial management, such as project management and process management.
  • Proficiency in English suited to the work.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out tasks and provide informed guidance to support service delivery within budget and contractual obligations.
  • Produce deliverables within defined formats, meeting deadlines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Discuss and present deliverables with internal and external clients and offer suitable solutions.

  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain discipline and knowledge.
  • Assess and recommend time and value for work for external clients and determine cost structure.
  • Provide guidance to other employees to enable knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to service delivery improvement by communicating client feedback.
  • Undertake routine administration tasks following current processes and procedures.

We are looking for an experienced surveyor who will assess the design, production, and in-service aspects of engineering assets, using procedures, experience and knowledge appropriate for complex / demanding situations. The role may also include managing projects.

  • Carry out appropriate tasks and offer informed guidance to support service delivery in your area of experience, while ensuring adherence to budget limits and contractual obligations.

What You Bring
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd's Register in the relevant field of engineering or physical science. The degree program should have been a minimum of two years in duration. Alternatively, qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer will also be considered.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working towards or obtaining Chartered or Incorporated Engineering status.
  • Adherence to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • The ability to utilize a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Capability to apply suitable theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, and maintain engineering products, processes, systems, and services.
  • Proficiency in technical and commercial management, such as project management and process management.
  • Proficiency in the English language that is suitable for the nature of the work.
