Description

As our Survey Manager, you will report directly to the Superintendent/General Manager and oversee all survey operations. This leadership role demands expertise in survey methods, machine control, and photogrammetry—managing data collection, processing, and analysis from initial scouting through final as‑building.

You will play a pivotal role in capturing the data that drives the construction of pipelines and facilities, as well as the restoration of rights‑of‑way. In addition, you will train and supervise a skilled team of surveyors, ensuring accuracy and excellence at every stage. This is an opportunity to lead, innovate, and deliver results that shape the success of our projects.

This position is site‑based and the specific rotation and project location will be determined based on project requirements.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Direct the execution of survey tasks including control point setup, topographic surveys, as-builts, layouts, and any other necessary data capture for the project.
  • Coach and mentor survey staff for project tasks including survey, machine control and drone operations. Ensure surveyors and project technical staff are sufficiently trained to process video and photogrammetry imagery and upload machine control files.
  • Guide survey procedures and workflows, maintaining best in class usage of GPS, UAV, and machine control technology.
  • Support fleet managers through sourcing, installation, and management of GPS machine control equipment.
  • Oversee survey, machine control, and UAV equipment inventory ensuring equipment is properly inventoried, maintained and updated while identifying opportunities for value added upgrades.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection on the project. Applies the requirements of the Project Specific Safety Program (PSSP) to promote overall compliance with Ledcor HS&E standards, applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes with all employees and subcontractors on the project.
Qualifications
  • Technological graduate in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Tech or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • Registration as Alberta Land Surveyor – Canada Drone Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of pipeline construction, including mainline pipeline installation and facility construction best practices.
Equipment and Software Proficiencies
  • RTK (Real‑Time Kinematic), GPS (Global Positioning System), and Total Station: Extensive experience in operating and managing these systems for accurate land and site surveying.
  • UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Operations: Proficient in planning and executing UAV photogrammetry and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) missions for detailed topographical mapping and data collection.
  • Machine Control Systems: Expertise in the use of machine control technology for precise grading and excavation, with specific experience in Topcon systems being advantageous.
  • Pipe Bending Calculations: Knowledge of pipe bending practices and the ability to perform related calculations, adding value to pipeline installation projects.
  • SAGD (Steam‑Assisted Gravity Drainage) Flow Line Installation: Experience in the installation of flow lines for SAGD operations, considered an asset.
  • RTK and PPK (Post‑Processed Kinematic) Data Processing: Comprehensive understanding of processing imagery data collected through RTK and PPK methodologies for high‑accuracy mapping and surveying results.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D: Experience with this software for civil engineering design and drafting, particularly in creating detailed models and simulations for construction projects.
Working Conditions
  • This position is site‑based and the specific rotation and project location will be determined based on project requirements.
