Job summary

The Whitehorse Chamber is seeking a Supported Childcare Worker to assist with inclusion in the center program for children aged 18 months to 5 years, including those needing extra support. You will participate in IPP implementation, liaise with families and the Child Development Centre, and help maintain a safe, positive environment.

Required are First Aid/CPR, Level 1 ECE, and strong communication skills. Standard hours are Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., with some flexibility and meetings

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children aged 18 months to 5 years, including those needing extra support.
  • Ability to communicate skillfully and sensitively with children, parents and staff.
  • Ability to observe behavior objectively and report on observations.
  • Knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and privacy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Capability to complete tasks in a timely manner without supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in implementing the IPP to facilitate inclusion.

  • Assist with group and individual activities per the IPP.

Wage: $20 - 35

Job Description

The Supported Childcare Worker provides care to children with supported child care needs to allow for inclusion in the center program. This position helps to ensure children with supported child care needs are able to reach their goals developed in collaboration with the Child Development Centre.

Specific tasks include:
  • Assist staff in implementing the Individual Program Plan (IPP) to facilitate successful inclusion
  • Develop and maintain a positive environment
  • Assist staff and the child in group and individual activities, following the IPP
  • Liaise with parents/caregivers, the Child Development Centre and Childcare Services on all aspects of the child’s behavior and participation
  • Ensure that all health and safety guidelines, policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Attend all necessary staff meetings and training sessions
  • Communicate with the staff to promote an open, collaborative environment.
