Job description
Overview

Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Plant Operations Beaufort Delta (BD), the plant superintendent is responsible for the day to day operations and maintenance of the power generation and distribution facilities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable supply of electricity to the community.

Responsibilities
  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Provides support to regional, head office or contract staff int he completion of area projects with regards to scheduling, monitoring, and hands on assistance.
  • Maintain buildings as to a safe, clean manner including any painting or simple repairs. Entrances / exits clear of snow and debris, combustible materials stored in proper locations. Emergency lighting, fire fighting equipment and exit signs tested and serviced as needed. Tools and equipment properly stored. Floors swept and washed.
  • Ensures that the power plant, auxiliary buildings, tank farm and compound are secure and that the regional office is immediately notified of all hazardous, or potentially hazardous conditions or environmental issues.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma (or equivalent GED) plus one year of related mechanical or electrical experience or plant operator training, OR a minimum of Grade 10 education with at least three (3) year's relevant mechanical or electrical experience. Equivalencies may be considered.

  • Related journeyperson certification would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum direct supervision in a location remote from the regional office.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to maintain effective, open, and reliable communications with team members, customers, and community representatives.
  • Administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and assignments, direct the work of staff, and to provide documentation, reports, and recommendations to the regional office.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Computer skills to operate a variety of software related to financial, administrative and reporting systems, email, internet, etc.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Must have a full Class 5 NWT driver’s license.
  • Must provide satisfactory criminal record check prior to commencing work.

This is a part-time position (15 hours/week). Salary for this position ranges from $42.96/hr. to $52.18/hr. plus approximately $11,808 in location allowance per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, paid sick days and defined benefits pension plan. Relocation assistance may be provided. This position is located in Fort McPherson, NT -- this is not a rotational/fly-in position.
