Reporting to : Director of Clinical Programs

Compensation : $24 / hour

Since 1933, Haven Toronto has been a drop‑in centre where elderly homeless, marginally housed and socially isolated men can feel safe, where they can form and cultivate friendships, and become part of a community. Our vision is a safe and just community in which elder homeless men can live a quality and dignified life.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct general assessments of Haven Toronto clients wellness, including physical and mental health, providing direct assistance where possible and making appropriate referrals to community resources when required.
  • Document observations and client needs in the logbook; consult with the Supervisor and / or colleagues as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain supportive relationships with clients, monitoring wellbeing and encouraging constructive engagement.
  • Assist clients in accessing core services such as showers, laundry, meals, and clothing.
  • Distribute food during designated mealtimes and supplies (e.g., clothing, towels, toiletries).
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment for clients; monitor client interactions and intervene as necessary and appropriate.
  • Provide crisis intervention in accordance with Haven Toronto policies and procedures; document actions taken and recommendations for follow-up.
  • Administer first aid or call emergency services when required.
  • Assist in receiving and organizing food, dry goods, and donations; help maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Work collaboratively and constructively with colleagues and clients in support of Haven Torontos mission.
  • Ensure all areas of the premises are clean, safe, and free of obstruction or hazards.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, including safety and security checks.
  • Stock supplies throughout the building as needed.
  • Always represent Haven Toronto in a professional and respectful manner.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary diploma in Social Services, Addictions, Recreation, or Mental Health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to aging, homelessness, addictions, mental health, and food or income insecurity.
  • Proven ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience engaging older adults who are economically marginalized in creative and meaningful ways.
  • Knowledge of downtown Toronto community and social resources is an asset.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
