Job summary

Job Description
HOURS OF WORK

Shifts: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 12:00 midnight, 12:00 midnight to 8:00 am

Shifts are 8.0 hours of paid time

JOB PURPOSE

The Support Attendant is responsible for the supervision of clients/property through regular rounds of inspection.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES
  • Makes scheduled rounds of inspections, checks safety/security, monitors clients/residents and premises; maintains an atmosphere of calm, providing an unobtrusive presence
  • Understands and is aware of emergency/disaster procedures and follows through
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g., police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking urine samples, doing bed checks, and room/personal searches
  • Reports security problems to appropriate staff
  • Ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline or recommending banning of current or prospective clients
  • Meets visitors and directs and accompanies them as necessary; may include contact to resident/client
  • May serve as Relief Front Desk Clerk
  • Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED

The successful job applicant will have completed high school plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis
  • WHMIS training
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Mental Health First‑Aid
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention training
MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE

One year of prior related experience, including security experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED

The performance of the job requires continuously performing walkabouts, and occasionally keyboarding and lifting/packing clients’ belongings.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, interacting with clients, and occasionally recording information and monitoring security cameras.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in treatment facilities/grounds. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $28.32 to $28.70 with a maximum of $29.07. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
