Position Summary

The ESL Instructor provides English as a Second Language instruction to adult immigrants in all aspects of the English language with an emphasis on oral communication. The Instructor communicates subjects about Canadian culture including Canadian history, geography, customs/traditions, idioms and laws to assist them with their integration into Canadian society.

Qualifications
  • Relevant post secondary education or equivalent in Education and related experience
  • Experience in English language instruction
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) qualifications as recognized by TESL Ontario
  • Ability to deliver online and in‑person instruction simultaneously
  • Ability to use MS Teams, Avenue, and any other tools and Learning Management System(s) as needed
  • Excellent understanding of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)
  • Training in Portfolio‑Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
  • Previous experience delivering instructional programming to adults
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment skills
  • Ability to demonstrate good classroom management strategies
  • Ability to motivate learners and be sensitive to culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues and outside agents within a third‑party purchase‑of‑service environment
