Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Contracts & Supply Chain Specialist based in Calgary to lead procurement for engineered equipment, subcontracts and services on North American construction projects.

You will manage vendor relationships, negotiate terms, prepare project-specific contract templates, and coordinate with engineering, estimating and site teams to balance cost, schedule and risk while ensuring compliance with client specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, construction management, engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in engineering and/or construction or related field.
  • Must have experience in vendor and subcontractor management, including evaluation, selection, performance management, and contract closeout.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) with general knowledge of database utilization. SAP experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of equipment and materials common in EPC projects.
  • Detail-oriented, flexible and highly motivated with a strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills for both managerial and client interfacing.
  • Team player with the ability to also work independently to meet fixed deadlines, goals and objectives.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and plan all aspects of purchasing from pre-bid to closeout.
  • Represent company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers, subcontractors and professional service providers.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with equipment vendors, material vendors, professional service providers and subcontractors; consult with corporate attorneys and senior management to minimize project and corporate risk while maintaining commercial competitiveness.
  • Monitor and oversee execution of the purchasing buyout.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying and/or estimating materials, equipment, subcontract and professional services.
  • Locate and assist in the evaluation and qualification of vendor materials and equipment, subcontractors, and professional service providers.
  • Process requisitions and prepare purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procurement and contract management instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
  • Provide feedback to assist in analyzing market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims.
  • Review purchase order or subcontractor claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Communicate and enforce purchasing policies & procedures to project team; provide training to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for projections, financial planning, expediting, delivery schedules and project purchasing reporting.
  • Provide detailed risk assessments and mitigation strategies to project cost, schedule, quality and general buyout
  • Oversee the development and review of all procurement analytics, reporting and deliverables.
  • Implement and oversee project mobilization activities including office set-up, site general arrangement, etc.
  • Work with the material management department to ensure proper material receiving and control.

Position Overview

Kiewit's Contracts & Supply Chain Specialists oversee procurement and subcontractor / vendor management on construction projects across North America. You provide leadership and management for procurement of engineered equipment, subcontracts, professional services, commodities, permanent plant materials, and small tools and supplies. You will interface with engineering, estimating, design, and the site to create project-specific contract templates, negotiating with equipment vendors, material vendors, subcontractors and service providers. You willconsult with corporate attorneys and senior management when necessary.
