Job summary

The City of Kawartha Lakes is seeking a Supervisor, Technical and Support Services to lead library technology operations and cataloguing across branches in Lindsay, ON. You will oversee ILS administration, system configurations, and collection management while partnering with municipal facilities and leadership to support safe, accessible library spaces.

This full-time role offers hybrid/remote options, OMERS pension, benefits, education reimbursement, and opportunities for career advancement

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Library Technician or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related progressive experience, including supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and supporting Integrated Library Systems (ILS), digital library platforms, and related library technologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of library technical services functions, including cataloguing, acquisitions, collection development, metadata standards, and interlibrary loan processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills at a level to ensure successful program and employee performance outcomes and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of financial budget and business planning processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, audio/video conferencing, the internet and any other related software.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License or the ability to frequently attend work related activities at various sites within the municipality or at other sites within Ontario.
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, an acceptable Criminal Record Check will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day delivery of technical services functions, including cataloguing, acquisitions, interlibrary loan services, and collection processing activities, ensuring efficient workflows, adherence to established standards, and timely access to library materials across all branches
  • Coordinate the administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of library technology systems and digital services, including the Integrated Library System (ILS), digital library platforms, public technology resources, and related applications, liaising with vendors and internal Information Technology (IT) supports as required to maintain effective service delivery
  • Oversee the configuration and ongoing maintenance of coded administrative settings, workflows, and user permissions within library systems to support operational requirements and service standards
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance and effectiveness of physical and digital library collections through circulation analysis, usage trends, and community demand indicators, supporting evidence-based collection planning and resource allocation
  • Coordinate collection development and maintenance activities, including material selection, rotation, deselection, and replacement, to ensure collections remain relevant, balanced, and responsive to community needs
  • Administer cataloguing, classification, and metadata standards for library materials to promote consistency, discoverability, and accessibility across library collections and systems
  • In collaboration with the CEO/Library Director and municipal facilities teams, support the management of branch facility matters, including maintenance, security, and minor capital projects to support safe and functional library spaces
  • Prepare reports, statistical analysis, and budget-related information related to technical and support services functions, providing data and recommendations to support operational planning, service evaluation, and decision-making
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of library-specific policies, procedures, standards, and workflows related to technical and support services to promote efficient and consistent operations

  • Salary: $100,074 - $117,078 (2026)
  • Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Library Director
  • Department: Library Services
  • Location: Lindsay, ON
  • Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week with core working hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
  • Other: Combination of general office environment and occasional off-site travel. Attend meetings, conferences and departmental emergency situations, which may be outside of normal business hours.
