Job summary

First Student is hiring an Operations Supervisor for a 12 Month contract in Nova Scotia, Dartmouth. The role focuses on supervising day-to-day bus operations, coordinating maintenance and fueling, and ensuring safety and compliance across routes and field trips.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years in transportation, strong supervisory and communication skills, and the ability to manage driver paperwork, scheduling, and credentialing while collaborating with the Location Manager.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years experience in transportation industry is required.
• Strong supervisory and leadership capabilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Solid organizational and time-management skills.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Proficient computer and software skills for daily operations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates and promotes a safe work environment at all times.
• Insures drivers have the daily paperwork necessary to complete their routes and that charter paperwork is received by the Location Manager.
• Coordinates field trips by assigning personnel and vehicles.
• Under Location Manager's direction, assists drivers with route descriptions.
• Ensures drivers follow through with scheduled fueling and mechanical work.
• Observes safety practices and takes corrective action when necessary.
• Assists Location Manager during training sessions and kickoff meetings.
• Attends disciplinary meetings with Location Manager.
• May interact with school officials at smaller bus locations.
• May drive a bus on occasion if necessary.
• Assists dispatcher when needed.
• May manage small locations under the Location Manager's guidance.
• Ensures routes meet state, local, and vendor requirements.
• Reviews time sheets before submission to payroll.
