Job summary

IVC Vita Health Products, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, seeks a Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor to lead the maintenance and facilities team, ensuring safe, reliable GMP-compliant operation of equipment and utilities.

You will manage preventive maintenance, coordinate external contractors, and collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, Validation, and Engineering to minimize downtime and support operational excellence. Weekend rotations may apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
• Experience with GMP-regulated environments (pharma, natural health, food, medical devices) preferred.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, facility systems, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily activities of the Maintenance & Facilities team, including scheduling work, prioritizing requests, and coaching.
• Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Assign and monitor corrective maintenance activities and ensure rapid response to breakdowns.
• Ensure maintenance documentation in CMMS and support calibration/validation activities.
• Coordinate external contractors to ensure safe, efficient, compliant completion of work.
• Monitor facility systems (HVAC, utilities, electrical, boilers, refrigeration, etc.) and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in Change Control and capital projects; support start-up and commissioning.
• Maintain inventory of parts and assist with procurement; monitor KPIs like downtime and costs.

Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance & Facilities, the Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance and facilities team to ensure the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of manufacturing equipment, utilities, and building systems. The Supervisor coordinates preventive maintenance, repairs, calibration activities, contractor work, and facility improvements while ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), health and safety requirements, and company policies.

This role provides leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to maintenance personnel and works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Validation, and other departments to minimize equipment downtime and support operational excellence.

The successful applicant may be required to work weekends based on operational needs and may participate in a rotational schedule with the day shift supervisor. This position will work primarily on the evening shift, providing supervision and support to evening and night shift union employees.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities for this position:

• Supervise the daily activities of the Maintenance & Facilities team, including scheduling of work assignments, prioritizing maintenance requests, monitoring attendance, approving time off, and providing coaching and performance feedback.
• Coordinate and oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Assign and monitor corrective maintenance activities, ensuring equipment breakdowns are responded to promptly and effectively.
• Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support equipment qualification, validation, calibration, and requalification activities in collaboration with Validation and Quality Assurance.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in accordance with GMP requirements, safety regulations, SOPs, and company policies.
• Coordinate external contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
• Monitor the performance of facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, purified water, electrical systems, boilers, refrigeration, security systems, and other building utilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facility infrastructure to identify maintenance needs and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist in developing maintenance schedules that minimize production downtime.
• Support capital projects including equipment installations, facility modifications, commissioning activities, and equipment start-up.
• Participate in Change Control processes by evaluating maintenance impacts and supporting implementation activities.
• Maintain inventory levels of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies while assisting with procurement activities.
• Monitor departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as preventive maintenance completion, equipment downtime, work order completion, and maintenance costs.
• Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Participate in internal, customer, and regulatory inspections and support audit readiness activities.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, operational efficiency, safety, and cost reduction.
• Ensure employees receive appropriate technical and safety training and maintain required competencies.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience within a regulated manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
• Experience supporting pharmaceutical, natural health products, food, medical device, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, facility systems, utilities, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance projects.

Education, Certification, Licenses & Registrations:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, recognized by a Canadian University, or an Interprovincial Red Seal certification (Industrial Mechanic/Millwright) is required.
• Supervisory or leadership training is preferred.
• Certification in Maintenance Reliability (CMRP), Project Management (PMP), or Lean Manufacturing is considered an asset.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout office, plant, and facility areas.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
• Frequently need to bend, reach, climb stairs/ladders, and access confined or elevated spaces when inspecting equipment or facilities.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, and other protective gear as needed.
• Ability to work in environments that may be noisy, hot/cold, or require extended periods in manufacturing or warehouse settings.
• Visual acuity and manual dexterity required for reviewing documents, working with computer systems, and inspecting equipment or facilities.
